We have been dealing with South Africa as a tourist destination since prior to the majority-rule government of 1995, when only a handful of tour operators in the UK were selling the country. We have seen the product develop, and visitor numbers increase from the hundreds, to hundreds of thousands. Throughout this process we have been building relationships and refining our offering, to a point whe

re we don't believe our knowledge, contacts and expertise can be bettered. Similarly we have been dealing in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius and the Seychelles for 20+ years. We have been part of the growth of these countries as tourist destinations, and again we have developed relationships and expertise that enable us to offer a peerless service and knowledge. In East Africa (Kenya & Tanzania) and Central East Africa (Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda) we work with some of the most experienced operations on the ground in each country, bringing with them a wealth of experience.

On her recent holiday to South Africa, Rebecca stayed at Leopard Mountain Safari Lodge. Along with the usual safari suspects, she spotted one of the most rare sightings on a safari - the pangolin!

The dedicated conservation charity on the reserve offer the chance for guests to join their pangolin conservation team in tracking the elusive creatures, led by their dedicated tracker Ruby, the cocker spaniel.

Pangolins are the number one most trafficked animal in the world, accounting for as much as 20% of all illegal wildlife trade globally. The pre-historic looking creatures are valued for their keratin scales, meat and skin, and they are poached and trafficked to meet high demand that has pushed the species to extinction. The conservation projects aim to rescue and re-introduce pangolins into the wild, though they need consistent monitoring to ensure their successful rehabilitation.

This remarkable experience allows guests to get up close with one of Africa's most elusive animals while supporting their rehabilitation into the wild, and paving the way for future pangolin conservation efforts.

In a true testament to how much we at Africa Collection all adore the destinations that we sell, Rebecca’s recent holiday took her to some of the most stunning parts of South Africa, in the KwaZulu Natal province, beginning with a stay at Fugitive’s Drift Lodge

In the heart of the Battlefields region, Fugitive’s Drift Lodge offers one of the most immersive experiences into the history of this area. Led by truly excellent guides, guests are told the stories of the Anglo Zulu war, and specifically two battles - The Battle of Isandlwana and The Battle of Rorke’s Drift - while walking on the exact spot the battles took place. Emotive and informative, these tours capture everyone who partakes. Rebecca (a self-proclaimed non-history buff), found the tours fascinating, and shed a few tears, and would recommend them as essential to anyone visiting this part of South Africa.
