Last week I was fortunate enough to stay at Sani Dunes, part of Sani Resort in Halkidiki, as a guest of Sani.
In an ever-growing market of luxury hotels in Europe, Sani Resort stands out for the depth of its commitment to sustainability, embedding it into everything from its day-to-day operations and conservation work to guest experiences and community partnerships. They are not just focused on minimising impact; their strategy is about actively protecting and restoring the natural environment, setting a strong example of how luxury tourism can contribute to a more sustainable future.
A few facts that really stood out to me:
🌱 The resort uses 100% renewable electricity and zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
💧 100% wastewater reuse, helping protect valuable water resources.
♻️ More than 370 tonnes of waste managed across 30 recycling streams.
🐬 Working with marine conservation organisation iSea to research dolphin populations and educate guests about marine biodiversity.
🐝 More than 4,100 eco-excursions delivered last season, including birdwatching, wetland exploration and biodiversity-focused snorkelling.
🌳 Opportunities for guests to get involved, from learning about pollinators to planting trees.
🥗 More than 60% of produce sourced within 100 miles, supporting local farmers and producers.
🤝 Supports more than 60 non-profit organisations, alongside initiatives that benefit vulnerable local communities.
💦 it has eliminated single-use plastics from guest-facing areas and is progressively reducing them in back-of-house operations where feasible
I left Sani reflecting on how they really are making a difference, and will continue to do so in the future. It is a great example of how luxury tourism can combine high-quality holidays with environmental responsibility, as well as meaningful community engagement.
