Guildford Town Guides The Voluntary Town Guides provide walking tours that show and explain the town to thousands of people each year.

The most popular walking tour is the Historical Tour of the town. This includes a brief history from the earliest times with visits to the Abbot's Hospital, St Mary's Church, the Undercroft and the Castle grounds. In addition to the Historic Walking Tour, the Guides offer other walking tours on Medieval Guildford, Hidden Guildford, The River Wey and Lewis Carroll.

In view of the extremely hot weather forecast this week, we have regretfully decided to postpone the Hidden Guildford walk scheduled at 11 am on Thursday 25 June.

We will organise another date shortly and let you know the details. We do not believe it would be sensible to take a guided walk in these conditions. All those who have booked have been advised directly of the change.

Friday 'after work walks' - what a great idea!

These walks are ideal for those who dont have a chance to join day time walks.

De-stress after a working week by joining our knowledgeable guides on a short 45 min walk starting at Tunsgate Arch, with stops along High St and ending at the castle grounds.

This Friday 5th June and also 12th June join us for Brief Lives - an overview of the lives of four characters with close links to Guildford and some of their successful lives are also tinged with scandal and tragedy.

Later this month the Friday 'after work' offers a longer walk that ventures beyond the High Street to discover the less well known stories of the town. Hidden Guildford runs on Friday 19th June.

Did you know that Guildford was the home of Alan Turing, where he grew up, and continued to visit his family members right up to his tragic death.

Did you know June 23rd is Alan Turing's birthday?

Alan Turing is considered the Father of modern computing and well known for his code-breaking work during the Second World War. He was also a significant figure in the development of of ideas about Artificial Intelligence.

To celebrate we have our fascinating Turing Encounter Walk heading out that evening at 7pm.. This walk is always sold out as it offers an incredible insight into the man and his life and times.
