: EMIRATES TO BECOME FIRST AUTISM CERTIFIED AIRLINE IN THE WORLD
Being autistic myself, this is big news. As now, one airline has become autism certified, then hopefully the rest will start to follow. It is just a matter of time. Anyway, if you have autism or any specifics additional needs then, come to me and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.
Big news for accessibility in air travel! Emirates is on track to become the first airline in the world to earn Autism Certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
Over 30,000 Emirates staff, including cabin crew and ground teams, are undergoing specialized training to better support autistic travelers. The program covers sensory triggers, individual needs, and common misconceptions about autism, with the goal of having at least 80% of customer-facing staff fully trained.
Starting in 2025, Emirates will also roll out new services to improve accessibility, such as sensory guides and digital tools to help passengers navigate environments based on sensory factors like sound and lighting. They’ll also introduce neurodiverse-friendly items, such as fidget toys, to make flights more comfortable.
The airline has already made strides, earning Autism Centre Certification for its four Dubai check-in locations, including the hub in Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport—following the airport’s own groundbreaking certification in December 2023.
This is a huge step toward making travel more inclusive! 🛫💙
