Traquair family stay

What’s it really like to stay in Scotland’s oldest inhabited house with two energetic children?

To celebrate her husband Jon’s 40th birthday, our copywriter Amy packed up the car in Halifax and headed north with their two boys for a two-night family stay at Traquair House.

What they discovered was far more relaxed and family-friendly than you might expect - from racing through the famous hedged maze and meeting the resident goats to woodland walks and cosy evenings in an historic drawing room.

✨ A huge thank you to Craigietocher Tower, nestled in the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside, for hosting an unforgettable auction prize donated by Celtic Castles to support the British Business Awards - a night's stay for four with dinner in this remarkable historic setting.

The winning guests shared some wonderful feedback following their stay:

"We cannot thank Phill and Meryl enough for their fantastic hospitality at the Tower. It was a really powerful immersion into history and the monarchy, and we feel we may only have scratched the surface of all you could tell us. Coupled with champagne on arrival, a daunder through the bluebell woods before a really tasty home-cooked dinner, followed by drinks in the grand hall, it was a weekend to remember. Every nook and cranny of the barmkin held a wonder, and we are now very much in awe of the archers and their long bows."

Special thanks to Phill and Meryl for creating such a memorable experience. We are delighted that this extraordinary prize helped raise funds while giving our winners the chance to experience the unique history, character and hospitality of Craigietocher Tower. 🏰

Celtic Castles at The Yorkshire Choice Awards 2026! 🏆

Some of the Celtic Castles team, along with invited guests, attended the prestigious Yorkshire Choice Awards at The Centenary Pavilion, Elland Road, the home of Leeds United Football Club, last week, and what a fantastic evening it was!

On arrival, we were welcomed by glamorous stilt-walking showgirls before stepping into the beautifully decorated pavilion, where crystal chandeliers adorned every table and twinkling fairy lights illuminated the ceiling, creating a truly spectacular setting.

As the evening began, the CEO of Candlelighters, the event’s chosen charity, delivered a heartfelt speech about the organisation’s vital work and encouraged guests to support the cause through the silent auction or by making a donation.

Guests were then treated to a delicious three-course meal, expertly served to around 600 attendees in impressive time. Once dinner had concluded, it was time for the awards ceremony to begin.

The evening was expertly hosted by Christa Ackroyd, who welcomed the award presenters and announcers to the stage throughout the night. Each category featured four finalists, with a short introduction highlighting their achievements before the winner was revealed.

Celtic Castles was proud to sponsor The Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and it was soon Roger and Julie’s turn to take to the stage to present the accolade - a role they carried out brilliantly.

We were also delighted to be nominated for the Customer Service Award. Although we didn’t make the final four, it was an honour to be recognised among so many outstanding Yorkshire businesses.

Everyone had a wonderful evening, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the organisers of The Yorkshire Choice Awards for inviting us to be part of such a memorable event.
