Summer has begun at York Castle Museum !
We were lucky enough to attend a fantastic press preview for a sneaky peek at their brand-new exhibition ahead of the official public opening! We’ve put together a full visitor guide so you can map out your own trip this summer.

The museum is throwing open its doors to explore a fun, seasonal question: who did summer better—the grand Victorians or the swinging 1960s?

🌸 Team Victorian: Walk the famous cobbled street of Kirkgate, which has been beautifully transformed into a grand Victorian Summer Gala with bunting, floral displays, paper hot air balloon workshops, and live street performers!
🕺 Team 1960s: Travel to the swinging sixties with live music, retro outdoor games in the courtyard, and highly nostalgic displays of vintage childhood toys, fashion, and record players.

🗓 22nd June to 6th September
📍York Castle Museum

Plus, you can still experience the chocolate factory sensory stations, complete the kids' trail, and explore the spooky old prison cells! 🍫🗝️

💥 Tank engines, battle re-enactments, and vintage 1940s style—the ultimate historical weekend is coming to South Yorkshire! 💥

Yorkshire Wartime Event is back for summer 2026 at Kirkhouse Green, Doncaster from 7th to 9th August.
It is the North of England's largest military living history event, and it is the perfect action-packed day out for the whole family.
What’s on across the weekend:
💥The Main Arena Action: Watch spectacular, explosive WWI and WWII battle re-enactments featuring authentic tactics and full pyrotechnics (Saturday and Sunday only!).
🪖 Tanks & Machinery: Get up close to over 400 genuine military vehicles, including roaring tanks on the move, heavy artillery, and daily parades.
🏅Living History Camps: Wander through more than 70 authentic military display camps to see how soldiers and civilians really lived.
🎙The Home Front: Enjoy live 1940s singing and dancing, and browse over 150 vintage trade stalls for unique collectibles and clothing.
🏹Kids Zone: Keep the little ones busy with firing ranges, a spitfire simulator, and children's entertainment.

🤫 Top Tip: Friday 7th August is a dedicated "Quiet Day" at a reduced price. It’s the perfect time to chat with re-enactors and explore the vehicle displays without the big arena crowds! (No battle re-enactments or arena displays)
💰 Save money on your tickets: While you can pay by cash or card at the gate, booking your tickets in advance online is significantly cheaper than buying on the day. Gather the troops and book early to secure your savings!
