A huge thank you to for their continued support of Madago Primary School in Kenya.

Following their trip to the Kenya coast in July 2025, where pupils helped renovate classrooms and provided desks and chairs for the kindergarten classes, their impact is still being felt.

Thanks to their generous donation, the school has now been able to build a new toilet block which as just finished completion. It is an important improvement for pupils.

It has been a privilege to facilitate this partnership and witness the continued commitment of the pupils and staff to creating meaningful change.

At Africa & Asia Venture (AV), we’re here for you every step of the way — from the moment you apply, throughout your time in-country, and long beyond returning home.

We take the time to get to know each of our volunteers through one-to-one briefings and regular check-ins throughout the preparation process, including support with fundraising.

✈️ Did you know we’ll meet you at London Heathrow on departure day? Andrew will be there at check-in to make sure you’re all set and ready to go — and to give you a big wave goodbye!

🌍 Once you arrive, our trusted in-country teams are on hand 24/7 to provide support, guidance and reassurance whenever you need it, ensuring you feel safe and supported throughout your fully immersive experience.

🏡 When you return, we’ll take the time to debrief with you, hear your feedback, and stay in touch as part of the AV community.

For over 30 years, the AV Foundation has been transforming lives through education.

Established in 1994 alongside Africa & Asia Venture, the AV Foundation is our registered charity dedicated to improving educational opportunities in rural communities across Africa and Asia.

From building classrooms and libraries to providing washrooms, water tanks, books, and equipment for sports and play, the Foundation helps create safe and inspiring environments where children can learn and thrive.

To date, the AV Foundation has disbursed more than £300,000 to support educational projects across our host communities in Africa and Asia.

What makes this work especially meaningful is that many of our volunteers, alumni, schools, and supporters have seen firsthand the needs of these communities and continue to raise funds and contribute long after their programmes have ended.

Some journeys don't end when your AV programme does - they evolve 🌍

One of our 2022 gap year volunteers has just returned to Kenya, revisiting his school in Msambweni and sharing the experience with his dad. Seeing it through fresh eyes - and alongside family - made the impact of his time there even more meaningful.

During his time on AV, he didn't just contribute in the classroom - he became part of the community. Spending weekends playing with the local Msambweni football team, he built genuine friendships and formed lasting bonds that went far beyond the project itself.

His time spent in Kenya left its mark. It went on to shape his academic path, inspiring his thesis 'A post-colonial exploration of Safaricom's M-Pesa in Kenya'. He's now determined to keep Africa as part of his future career.

It's aways incredible to see how the AV experience stays with our volunteers long after they've come home - and how they continue to influence the paths they choose next.
