🌿 4 Day Spring Escape to the Scottish Highlands? Yes Please! 🌿

Fancy a few days soaking up the wild beauty, coastal charm, and hidden gems of the North East of Sutherland? 💫 Our 4-day itinerary offers a spot of castle-hopping, waterfall-chasing, beach-wandering, and maybe curling up with a dram and a view.

Here’s a wee taster of what you could get up to…

🌊 Day 1: Hello Helmsdale & Coastal Wanders
Ease into your getaway with a seaside stroll, spot seals by the harbour, explore local history at the Timespan Museum, then dive into fresh seafood at Thyme & Plaice. In the afternoon? Dunrobin Castle awaits — total fairytale vibes, falcons and all! End the day catching sunset at Brora Beach and tucking into hearty Highland fare.

🌲 Day 2: Waterfalls, Wildlife & Wide Open Spaces
Head inland to the stunning Falls of Shin, sip coffee by Loch Shin, and picnic among ospreys at Loch Fleet. Then wander the haunting ruins of Badbea or take a scenic walk through the Strath of Kildonan — the kind of landscapes that linger in your soul.

🏝️ Day 3: NC500 Bucket List Day!
Think: Whaligoe Steps, cliff-top castles, puffins at Duncansby Stacks, and standing at Dunnet Head — the northernmost point on mainland Britain! This is Scotland at its raw, windswept best. Cap it off with legendary fish & chips from La Mirage back in Helmsdale.

☕ Day 4: Chill Mode Activated
Start with riverside coffee and pastries at the River Bothy Berriedale, wander the nearby Dunbeath Trail, enjoy a long lunch at The Brora Marine Hotel, and maybe even dip your toes in Loch Brora (or swing a club at Brora’s sheep-friendly golf course!). Round it off with a dram back at Valhalla, basking in the glow of Highland magic.

🌿☕ BRUNCH ALERT! ☕🌿

If you're ever exploring around the Highlands whilst staying at Valhalla and fancy a proper cosy stop-off… The Pier Café in Lairg is a hidden gem worth the detour! It's approx 50 mins from Helmsdale and totally worth the drive for the views alone 😍—think peaceful waterside serenity with a flat white in hand!

Some of the Valhalla team (Jackie, Alex & Jen) made a little trip en route home recently to suss out their brunch menu and 😋 ... 10/10 would recommend. Highlights? The veggie breakfast with tattie scones, poached eggs and all the good stuff, plus the scrambled egg + halloumi + avo combo was 💯.
