Fish Friday.
Past the predation, pollution, poaching and up to the physical barrier made by people in search of redds, the spawning ground for migratory fish including the criticaly endangered Atlantic Salmon.
The river Esk, North Yorkshires only principal river, home also to the endangered freshwater pearl mussel. Let's hope the River Esk Connect - REConnect project can improve the passage for these important species.

Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) an aquatic song bird, one of our early nesting species of passerine that hunts for small invertebrates in fast flowing streams and rivers, a juvenile Dipper, seen at the end of the clip, demonstrates the dipping action behaviour they inherit.

Chemicals used to treat ticks and fleas on dogs can be harmful to aquatic life, including the invertebrates that the Dipper and other species rely on.

The gathering of migratory birds such as Swallows can be a fantastic to watch, for some species it is the sound rather than vision that marks both their arrival and departure, weighing in at just 11.4g the song of the Sedge Warbler pleasure to be heard.

Release, Reintroduce, Recover, Regenrative, Rewild projects should be realistic not idealistic.

We have a duty to look after what we have and a moral obligation to ensure what we do has a realistic chance of achieving a sustainable outcome, the desire to have something is not reason alone to go ahead, suitable habitat and management plan that includes the impact of predator/prey species need to be taken into account.

Huge amounts of money has become available and is being chased under the banner of conservation, many projects with an idealistic view rather than a practical, realistic and sustainable long term plan.

"Right tree in the right place" has become a common phrase, the same should be said about other species that are not fixed to the ground, suitable habitat with plans in place for the expansion of species, surveys of public opinion are not enough to justify the go ahead for funding, the desire have is not a sustainable.

Black Grouse in one may work but fail in others, some rivers/areas may be suitable for Beaver but not all are.

Nature detective walk along the waters edge discovers two species, one we are pleased with and one we are not.
The spraint tells us Otters are around, the content tell us the Signal Crayfish is present, a Non Native Invasive Species (INNS) the sign tells anglers to check clean & dry, in reality anyone that uses the water for recreational use, wild swimmers, paddle boarders, canoeist etc. Should CHECK CLEAN & DRY!
We all have a part to play in tackling the spread of INNS.

We have been asked by people with an interest in the river Esk (North York Moors) to share the footage we have of the Sea Trout that have managed to reach the graveled area and created a redda spawn, we have quite a bit of "fish footage" here is an un-edited version, hopefully satisfys the request.
We hope to do more alongside the River Esk Connect - REConnect project in the future.
