We did it - our first ever floating sound bath- thank you to everyone for coming and to Denise for a wonderful evening. The next 4 sound baths have sold out but we are looking to add more dates in August and September

It's been over 5 months since we took over The Helmsley Retreat!

Went quickly.

At first we wanted to get a paper Guest Book, then we didn't... Thought these days - it's Facebook, Google reviews that matter and are easy to find and read - especially- before you book a place...

But we absolutely love getting these... Little Yellow Notes that mean SO MUCH! 💜

Yesterday we went back to one of our absolute favourite spots in York – La Vecchia Scuola.
(Located on Low Petergate, just a short walk from the Minster!)

We’ve been visiting this Italian gem for a few years now, and it never disappoints. Whether you’re planning a romantic date night or a relaxed evening out with friends, this place has the perfect atmosphere.

The food is always delicious, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the setting is just beautiful – especially if you manage to get a table in their lovely conservatory during the warmer months!

If you’re heading to York during your stay at The Helmsley Retreat, definitely check it out – it’s one of those places you’ll want to return to again and again.

'Public Footpath' - one of our favourite signs!

One of the best things about staying in Helmsley is that you don’t need to get in the car to enjoy nature - the countryside starts right on your doorstep.

We took this photo on a recent walk just a few minutes from the cottage, and it reminded us how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many incredible footpaths and trails.

Whether you're after a gentle stroll into town, a scenic loop around Rievaulx Abbey, or something a bit more adventurous like part of the Cleveland Way, there’s something for every pace and season.

Pack your walking shoes, maybe a flask of coffee, and just follow the signs. You never know what views, wildlife or little surprises you'll discover!

Lunch in the sunshine? Don’t mind if we do!

After a lovely walk through Helmsley today, we stopped at one of our favourite spots - The Cafe on the Square. With the sun shining, it was the perfect excuse for a cold beer and something tasty to eat.

Agnes had the homemade quiche (freshly baked by Dawn!) with a couple of side salads, and I had the chilli beef and cheese panini - both absolutely hit the spot. We sat outside in the sunshine - the terrace here is a real little sun trap!

If you’re staying at The Helmsley Retreat soon, definitely add it to your list. Great food, lovely people, and just around the corner.

A little night out in Helmsley…

Last night we had dinner at the beautiful Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa - and wow, it was genuinely one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time!

There were four of us, and between us we had onion soup to start (honestly, it was exceptional - so full of flavour!), followed by cod, halibut and pork for mains. Every single dish was spot on, beautifully cooked, and full of fresh flavour. Clean plates all round and plenty of compliments to the kitchen!

The Feversham Arms is just a short stroll from The Helmsley Retreat, and we’d absolutely recommend it to any of our guests looking for a special dinner during their stay. Great atmosphere, amazing food, and right on your doorstep.
