Happy Yorkshire Day! 🎉
And here at The Helmsley Retreat, we’re also declaring it… New Headboard Day!

We’ve just given the main bedroom a little upgrade – gone is the simple twin setup, and in its place is a lovely new statement headboard, perfect for the king-sized bed we now always use. It feels more luxurious, more cosy, and just right for a good night’s sleep after a day out in beautiful Yorkshire.

Let us know what you think – do you love a big, comfy headboard too? 💚🛏️

A little bedroom glow-up...
We’ve just finished a refresh of the main bedroom and we couldn’t be happier with the results!

The new tongue and groove panelling hides the small walk-in wardrobe and completely transforms the space. We went for a smooth, subtle colour palette from Little Greene - calming, cosy, and just right.

It’s been 7 months since we took over The Helmsley Retreat, and what a whirlwind it’s been! Squeezing decorating projects in between bookings hasn’t been easy (hello, paintbrush at midnight 👋), but looking back - so worth it!

Your kind words, support and repeat bookings really do mean the world to us. 💜

When in York… 🇮🇹🍷

…it’s no surprise we find ourselves at La Vecchia Scuola, one of our absolute favourites for a delicious Italian meal in the heart of the city.

We’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints - from the beautiful setting in a historic school building to the friendly staff who now feel like old friends. The food? Always a treat!

If you’re staying with us at The Helmsley Retreat and heading into York for a day out, we highly recommend booking a table here. Whether it’s for a romantic lunch or dinner with friends, this place delivers every time. 🥂🍝
