Eddie was fast asleep with his tail wagging and I would love to know what he was dreaming about. At 6 months he still has dreams where he is sucking or running which are obvious to interpret but my best guess for the wagging tail was food. ❤️🤣

Twinkle and Quincey are now on their way home from a wonderful week, according to their human carers. They are wearing with pride their Ruby Gem dog tags with holiday contact details. One of their talented carers left a fantastic poem in the visitors book, summarising their week. We really enjoyed reading.

Many of you who have visited Winterton have possibly also visited Poppy's tea room and post office. You would have undoubtedly seen Poppy the owners dog lying in the shop. They sadly came to the decision that the time had come to say goodbye to her.

Meet our newest recruit to our Ruby Gem care team, GR x lab puppy, 11 weeks old. His training hasn't yet begun with the mop and bucket but we are easing him to the soothing hum of the vacuum cleaner. I can't wait to see him trying to fit onto the step when he is 6 months old.

Do you have a dog who still tries to fit into their favourite place?

Many of our four legged guests at Ruby Gem like the return step at the bottom of the stairs as the morning sun hits it just right.

I had a Loch Ness moment yesterday! 😱 I had walked to the big dune north of Winterton, came down the back and beside the pond. That is when I saw a grey hump in the water, suddenly it saw me and gave an almighty splash and disappeared. When it emerged on the far side I realised it was a seal, in fact there were 3 others frolicking in the pond. Caught out like a bunch of naughty teenagers. 🤣
Most of the seals have gone from Winterton beach and the seal wardens are leaving Friday to move up to Horsey to monitor the moult there.

You often hear it said that there is no such thing as bad weather just a poor choice of clothing. Well it can safely be said that Elsa and Bertie have no concerns on that front with their thick coat protecting against the bracing air at Winterton-on-sea.
They even have a choice of flooring to cool off on when they get back to Ruby Gem.

'3 DOGS BUT FLEXIBLE'
This is what it says on the East Ruston Cottages web page but I thought it deserved a bit of an explanation. Ruby Gem isn't huge it sleeps 4, the garden is again not huge but secure (with real grass as one guest noted with pleasure) so 3 large dogs would enjoy the sofas or basking in the heat of the log burner but any more, along with their human carers, would be very 'cosy' indeed. The 'flexible' bit applies if someone is aware of the space available or has smaller dogs. We have had 6 small dogs stay with no problem and this group of 4 cuties stayed this Autumn and enjoyed the endless beaches and dunes of Winterton-on-Sea.

I love it when we get an Arnie quote 'we will be back'. We have quite a few people that regularly return to Ruby Gem. What is the attraction?

For last weeks guests it was a secure garden and real grass.

We have been trialing a new check out time with recent guests, giving them the option to leave by 11am. This would allow you to be able to take your dogs for a decent walk before they have to jump in the car. We are able to do this at Ruby Gem because we are the cleaners, gardeners and launderers and although 4 hours to turn the cottage round is a bit tight we think there are benefits. For us it means we don't have such an early start from home.
Is this something that appeals to you? Or do you prefer to get going at the crack of dawn?

Sailed past here this morning and I have to say it looked idyllic but a bit too early for an Aspalls. The Ferry Inn, Stokesby ideal if you are on your way to Winterton and want to stop for lunch before check in, dog friendly with seating inside and out.
