If you’re looking for things to see and do this weekend, here’s our round-up of what’s going on.
Our image this week is of Hertford Castle, taken from the Moat Garden. The Castle hosts Hertford Town Council's Cars at the Castle on Sunday from 12noon until 4pm. Cars at the Castle is one of the county’s largest free car shows, showcasing over 60 modern, classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, all within the grounds of the Castle. Enjoy a fantastic day out with live music, a variety of food and drink stalls, and the chance to explore the Castle, which will be open to the public throughout the event. There truly is something for everyone.
Debs from Christians Against Poverty will be at the Hertford, Ware & District Food Bank from 10am until 11am offering advice and help to those who need it. The foodbank is at the United Reformed Church on Cowbridge. Christians Against Poverty provides free debt help and life skills groups to support people struggling with poverty. Don't struggle in silence.
Hertford Love to Dance class, operated by the Saracens Foundation, takes place today from 10.15am at Cowbridge Hall. The class aims to combat social isolation and promote physical activity among individuals over 50 by offering enjoyable dance classes.
The Hertford Jazz Jam and Festival has returned to Herford with events taking place this month.
Fish & Chip Week continues until Sunday. Check out local pubs and restaurants which are marking this event to celebrate the nation’s favourite Friday dish.
The White Lion has live music and a deal on Fish & Chips on Friday.
The Greyhound has food trucks on Friday and Saturday evening from 5pm until 9pm.
The Hertfordshire Festival of Music has its final events of this year’s Festival in Hertford this weekend. On Friday evening at 7.30pm a New Virtuosi!: A Meeting of Friends takes place at the Friends Meeting House. The programme reflects friendship as a creative force: Britten and Poulenc wrote their sonatas at a similar moment for performers who were themselves close friends. Music has a rare ability to draw people together — and there could be no more fitting place to hear it than the Friends’ Meeting House. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the door.

If you fancy a run to start your weekend, Panshanger parkrun takes place at 9am on Saturday. If anyone is local to Panshanger park who would be interested in being a guide for a person with a visual impairment on a Saturday morning, do get in touch with the organisers.
It's market day in Hertford. Taking place in Salisbury Square, Maidenhead Street, Railway Street and Bircherley Green, regular stalls include fruit & veg, fish, plants & flowers, ladies’ fashion, eggs, meat, bread, pastries and more.
Indigo Forest School's Stay & Play: The Life of Trees takes place on Saturday from 10am. They'll be stepping into the secret life of trees, exploring how they capture energy from the sun, connect through vast underground networks, and support life all around them. Expect woodland adventures, hands-on science, nature crafts, grounding practices, campfire connection and plenty of time for free play amongst the trees.
All cooks, bakers, growers, foragers and brewers are invited to join Hertford Food Swap at BEAM on Saturday. Arrive at 10.30am and swap anything home grown, brewed, cooked or preserved for other produce.
Hertford St Andrew's Church’s June Coffee Morning & Plant Sale is raising funds for Cancer Research in memory of the late Julia Spring, one of the Church’s Women on Wednesday Home Group members. She had a love of plants and contributed many of her own for this annual event in past years. There will also be a marmalade stall, fairtrade coffee, homemade cakes and live music. The event takes place from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

The exhibition by artist Juni Hounslow who creates under the name “JuniPerloony” closes at Courtyard Arts on Saturday. The show invites visitors into a vivid, dreamlike world where wild creatures, quiet thinkers and lush botanicals coexist in a tapestry of colour, pattern and emotion. Drawing from the artist’s signature mosaic inspired, stained glass aesthetic, Wild Reverie showcases a collection of richly textured works that blur the line between the real and the imagined.
At 5pm, All Saints' Church, Hertford hosts Hertfordshire Festival of Music’s Musica Leviosa concert. Join the Hertfordshire Festival Community Concert Band for a magical concert of music from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Wicked, Indiana Jones and more. Did you know that Hertfordshire is the UK's premier film and television production hub, often called "Hollywood in Herts"? The county boasts a high concentration of global studios, including Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Elstree Studios, Sky Studios Elstree, and BBC Studioworks, creating major box-office hits like Barbie, Wonka, and Paddington. In this concert, there’s a celebration of the contribution Hertfordshire makes to the international film industry and the memorable music that brings these box-office hits to life. Tickets are available in advance and on the door.
All Saints’ Church is taking part in the Churches Count on Nature Initiative from Saturday until 14th June. During this time, they’ll carry out a survey of all the wildlife that calls the churchyard home. The Church is looking for people to get involved to identify as many plants as they can. The Church is then inviting anyone who has been involved to tea in the Church at 3pm on Sunday 14 June, when everyone can share what has found. If anyone is interested in joining in, please email the Vicar ([email protected]) who will put you in touch with those coordinating this work.
There’s live music on Saturday evening at the Mad Squirrel and at the Lord Haig.
At 7.30pm, the Corn Exchange - Hertford hosts Nashville Nights. Over the last four years this band has sold out every single show at their London West End residency as well as venues and theatres across the South of England.
The Chicago Blues Brothers perform at BEAM Hertford at 7.30pm. They’re tearing the roof off the Country Bunker! From the iconic hits of the Blues Brothers movies to some of the greatest country anthems of all time, this is a musical mash-up like no other – all delivered with that unmistakable CBB swagger and a fresh twist that’ll have you singing, clapping, and dancing all night long. There are a handful of tickets left.
The Hertford Bell hosts the Archibald’s from 9pm. They will also be showing England’s first World Cup warm-up game against New Zealand.
Hertfordshire Festival of Music continues on Sunday with a Special Festival Service: Music for Choir & Ensemble. Led by the Revd Simon Cutmore. The service reflects the theme Transfer Corpus — the movement of the Body of Christ from altar to people, and from worship into the life of the Church. Music for the service includes Mozart’s Missa brevis in D minor (K.65), written in 1769 when the composer was just twelve years old. Scored for choir, two solo violins, and continuo, the work is concise, serious in tone, and remarkable for its poise and assurance.
There is a plant sale at Mudlarks Community Garden Café on Sunday from 10am until 12.30pm. Browse a selection of plants lovingly grown by the Mudlarks Community, including vegetable plants, herbs, flowers and more, all ready for your garden this summer. Every purchase helps support adults with learning disabilities and mental health challenges through training, volunteering and paid work opportunities at Mudlarks.
Also from 10am, the Makers & Bakers Farmers & Craft Markets take place at BEAM. Pop along and support local, small artisan creators, makers and bakers. It's a great opportunity to find that perfect gift with many stalls to browse from. The market is on until 3pm.
There’s a Family Service with Millmead School Choir at Hertford URC Church at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome and tea and coffee will be served afterwards.
As mentioned above, Cars at the Castle takes place from 12noon until 4pm at Hertford Castle.
The Friends of St Leonard's Bengeo Church have been busy cleaning and getting Hertford’s oldest building ready for its first summer opening on Sunday from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. Pop along, explore the church and enjoy tea and cake.

Hertford Museum's Tewin exhibition is on until 28th June. Discover life in this thriving village and how it has changed over the last century. With firsthand accounts from villagers past and present, the Museum explores what the future might hold and how the village retains its sense of community in a rapidly changing world.
The Hertford Castle grounds are open from 7.30am until 6.30pm throughout the weekend. It's the perfect spot for walking, admiring the Castle and feeding the ducks. Duck food is available to purchase (50p a bag) from the Town & Tourist Information Centre.
From next Wednesday, the Hertford Dramatic & Operatic Society perform The Vicar of Dibley - A Holy Wholly Happy Ending at BEAM. Vicar Geraldine Granger and the other Dibley parishioners are fed up with all the “townies” buying up properties in the village – until one particularly charming newcomer catches Geraldine’s eye, that is… Could he be the one she has been waiting for? Is this her chance of a holy wholly happy ending, or will the other eccentric inhabitants of Dibley mess things up for her? Come and catch up with your favourite quirky characters as they wreak comic mayhem once again on the Hertford stage.
