Hornsea’s history is shaped by remarkable residents who left a lasting mark.
T.J. Smith, founder of Smith & Nephew, and J.A. Wade, who brought the railway, helped transform the town. Brewer William Bettison contributed to local industry, while nurse Margaret Strickland Constable, rumoured to have cared for J.R.R. Tolkien. Nanny Cankerneedle, the town’s infamous witch. The Rawson brothers were key entrepreneurs, Rose Carr was beloved for her kindness, and artist Harry Hudson Rodmell captured Hornsea’s charm with his iconic posters.

📣 We are excited to be welcoming Lewis Rose to speak at the Corpal Family Conference this year! 🎉

Diagnosed with Partial Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (P-ACC) 26 years ago, Lewis is an accredited Tour Guide and Heritage Expert with over 10 years' experience in the heritage sector, operating across East Yorkshire with Heritage 4 All Hornsea.

He is now an advocate for his local neurodivergent community, specialising in creating opportunities for others to gain vital experience and establish themselves within the heritage sector.

Lewis will be sharing his experiences with us on 11th July.

Big news! 📣

While sitting down to plan the 2026 tour dates tonight, I received an invitation I couldn’t turn down. I’ll be speaking at the National Corpal conference in Buckinghamshire later this year!

I’m so excited to talk about my experience with ACC and how I’ve built my business and many other things along the way. It does mean I’m taking one week off from tours to make it happen, but it’s going to be so worth it.

We are looking for someone comfortable working within the SumUp platform who can help us refresh our look while keeping things budget-friendly for a small business.

THE RAILWAY RETURNS!

The rumors were true! As of 6:00 AM this morning, the Hornsea Strategic Rail Link has officially broken ground.

This isn't just a trip down memory lane—this is a "New Era" for our town. Work has already started to replace the old road surface with high-speed tracks, bringing Hornsea back into the 21st-century national rail network.

Say goodbye to the bus replacement and the long drive to Beverley or Hull! The new "Wade-Electric" Express will soon be connecting Hornsea directly to the main line, with the first test trains expected on these tracks by the end of the month.

It’s incredible to see the progress already made today. Joseph Armytage Wade’s vision is finally being modernized for a new generation of commuters and visitors.
