Norwegian Cruise Line have a habit of making us feel like we want to see a show again immediately after seeing it โ€ฆ Burn the floor, Choir of Man, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Six and now Revolution!

You donโ€™t need to like Prince though there are some amazing songs such as Purple Rain, Kiss & When Doves Cryโ€ฆ this is a huge rock concert meets show meets celebration โ€ฆ it was extraordinary! The dancers are incredible singers and the singers are incredible dancersโ€ฆ at one point we counted 23 backing singers, dancers and band membersโ€ฆ TWENTY THREE and they were backing the main singers who were extraordinary!!

On the lower deck the seats are removed and the space becomes a concert / dancing space while the staging changes around you and the spectacular lighting compliments the whole affair โ€ฆ

The crowd sang, danced, whooped, clapped and cheered and it was like a huge shot of energy in the armโ€ฆ

We were worried as NCL have been dropping the more well known productions to create their ownโ€ฆ we need not have worried! What a brilliant brilliant productionโ€ฆ!

Some breaking news this morningโ€ฆ Marella Cruises have made an announcement suggesting that they have made tentative enquiries for 2 brand new ships with a potential delivery date of 2031โ€ฆ

Now, this is obviously incredibly early days and weโ€™ll have to see what transpires but this is significant because Marella have always bought ships from other cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or Mein Schiff for example.

However 2 brand new ships purpose built for the British and Irish markets would be quite a โ€˜sea changeโ€™ and step forward for the cruise line!

Definitely one to watch but really welcoming newsโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘€

Weโ€™ve lots still to cover from our recent trip to Budapest for the brilliant CLIA Riverview conference! While not strictly at the conference our Charmione & Jacquie got the opportunity to step onboard one of Emerald Cruises star ships!

Weโ€™re always impressed when we step on Emerald! Beautiful contemporary ships, lovely food, lots of inclusions and the poolโ€ฆ. That poolโ€ฆ amazes us every time! Yesterday was a good day! Some of you may remember that in 2024 we decided that for every Celebrity Cruises booking you all made with us we would make a small donation to Reuben's Retreat!

Weโ€™ve heard so much about Reubenโ€™s in recent years and having supported on an ad hoc basis we wanted to do moreโ€ฆ

Yesterday we got to experience this wonderful haven for ourselves with the lovely Shannon & Stacey touring us around and we also had the pleasure of chatting to Nicola, Reubenโ€™s Mum!

What struck us is how calm, warm and welcoming the space is and we could sense just how much of a sanctuary and support it has become for the 800+ families Reubenโ€™s is supporting!

For those that donโ€™t know Reubenโ€™s Retreat was founded by Nicola & Mike Graham just 2 days after the devastating and sudden loss of little Reuben from a brain tumour aged just 23 months. Its mission today is โ€˜To relieve the distress of families who have suffered the loss of a child or have a child living with medical complexities.โ€™

What started as a desire to help others has turned into this wonderful place with so much done, solely on donations, but with more to do! In the images you can see just how much work there is to do on several spaces to turn them into โ€˜suitesโ€™ that would be used by families and allow them to stay overnight as opposed to the day centre it is today! With families travelling from all over the country this would make Reubenโ€™s better able to support and allow more families to truly relax in the space for longer than a couple of hours - albeit a life saving couple of hours!!

Now weโ€™ll get told off for saying our donation of ยฃ600 is small on the grand scheme of things (sorry Shannon & Stacey!!!) but it could for example provide Bereavement packs for a sibling, pay for a counselling session, buy a support package for a poorly child with complexities and more so hopefully it will help in some way !

It may also contribute to the โ€˜One In A Millionโ€™ campaign which will enable those suites to be completed.

Important update for anyone who needs to get themselves a new UK passport - the price is set to increase on the 10th April so do get ahead and do it now rather than pay more in a couple of weeks time...

Here's the update from the UK Government website:

โšซ๏ธ The fee for a standard online application made from within the UK will rise from ยฃ88.50 to ยฃ94.50 for adults and ยฃ57.50 to ยฃ61.50 for children

โšซ๏ธ Postal applications will increase from ยฃ100 to ยฃ107 for adults and ยฃ69 to ยฃ74 for children

โšซ๏ธ The fee for a Premium Service (1 day) application made from within in the UK will rise from ยฃ207.50 to ยฃ222 for adults and ยฃ176.50 to ยฃ189 for children

โšซ๏ธ The fee for a standard online application when applying from overseas for a UK passport will rise from ยฃ101 to ยฃ108 for adults and ยฃ65.50 to ยฃ70 for children

โšซ๏ธ Overseas standard paper applications will increase from ยฃ112.50 to ยฃ120.50 for adults and ยฃ77 to ยฃ82.50 for children

Bad news this morning as Heathrow Airport has had to close all day today due to a power outage caused by a terrible fire at the electrical substation that supplies the airport!

This will cause huge impact with nearly 300,000 passengers set to fly in and out of the airport today alone. Of course Heathrow is a major departure airport but also a very popular gateway for many setting off for cruises and holidays further afield.

We have been checkining our own guest lists this morning and thankfully have no one affected in the next 48 hours. Heathrow Airport have shared the following update this morning:

โ€œDue to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage.

To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March.

Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information. We apologise for the inconvenience.โ€

Hopefully no one reading is impacted and of course despite obvious massive disappointment obviously everyoneโ€™s safety in these situations is paramount!

Some news from MSC Cruises this evening as they have shared news of an Entertainment revamp this Summer on MSC Virtuosa!

The headline is that Dirty Dancing: In Concert which is set to feature on MSC World America when she sets sail in April, is coming to Virtuosa from the 10th July 2025! It's a live to film concert experience with a brilliant live band, singers and dancers and it all culminates in a big get involved singalong finale and after party!!

Good news as Cunard's Queen Elizabeth has completed her three week makeover in Seatriumโ€™s Admiralty Yard in Singapore all set for her forthcoming seasons in Alaska from the 12th June and then in the Caribbean from 16th October 2025!

The press release suggests signature spaces such as the Commodore Club, Queens Room, Garden Lounge and The Pavilion have all been refreshed. Outdoor decks have also been treated to a touch-up and of course the iconic Queens Room has had a sprinkle of magic too and is looking glorious in our opinion! (See 1st image!!)

Grill Suites have been enhanced and new furniture has appeared on the Terrace too! There's also an addition - due to the success of The Pavilion Wellness Cafรฉ on Queen Anne, you will now also find one on Queen Elizabeth as Cunard continues their wellness focus! You can enjoy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner here too with focuses on plant based as well as sustainably sourced meat, fish and dairy!

This all compliments Harpers Bazaar Wellness at Sea programme which also been extended on Queen Elizabeth.

Lots of lovely little touches and although the ships are constantly refreshed and touched up throughout the year it's always great when a ship goes in for a little 'me time' coming out looking, feeling and smelling all brand new! We can't remember the last time we've had so much Fred. Gratuities will be included as standard on all sailings in 2026! While it was just ยฃ5pp per day it was the fact that you got that extra bill, that some wanted to take it off to tip individuals, itโ€™s unnecessary to have as an extra in our opinion. Gratuities are included in all fares for 2026 sailings. No further tipping is expected or required though the service is fantastic and you may wish to. Simple and easy.

For many this will be enough and they will no longer need any extra drinks package as they typically drank with dinner anywayโ€ฆ

A, Do not worry! If you have already prepaid for a House Drinks Package then youโ€™re winning - you will get a free upgrade to the Premium Drinks Package worth ยฃ40pp per day! No action is required, Fred. Olsen will take care of this and youโ€™ll see this on your documentation before you pay your balance.

Q, Iโ€™ve prepaid for a House drinks package but it was really to have drinks with meals, can I remove the drinks package now that some house mealtime drinks are included?

A, Yes you can and you will get a full refund! Just make sure that the new included drinks with meals covers what you need. However, Royal Caribbean have recently announced that in 2026 FOUR of the Oasis Class family will cruise out of the USA and do 2, 3, 4, and 5 night sailings... !! Utopia and Wonder of the Seas will both be doing year round sailings from Port Canaveral & PortMiami respectively while Harmony & Oasis will spend the winter doing those short sailings (although Harmony has some 7 night sailings mixed in!! That leaves just Allure (Miami) and Symphony (Galveston) operating 7 night sailings with any regularity!

Now, we always say a short sailing is a party cruise and we generally don't recommend them to anyone as a first time cruise taster without warnings as they are not the same experience as say a 7 night or longer sailing. We also know that these ships are SOOO big that as soon as you've managed to find your way to the Main Dining Room that you're off again... which we totally understand means you'll want to come back time and time again but if you're in the UK & Ireland that's a little trickier!

Now, in saying that and we've done it, there's nothing wrong with adding a little 3 night sailing to a week in Disney or Universal for example... we can put that together for you... but when it comes to ships this size longer would be better (in our opinion) - after all many guests are booking Icon of the Seas back to back to make it a 14 night holiday because 7 nights are not enough!!!

Which all makes Allure of the Seas in the Mediterranean so appealing fresh from her $100 million refit or indeed that handful of Harmony of the Seas sailings from Barcelona in 2026 just before the arrival of the incredible Legend...
