When we first set up our Hen Party Emporium, we didn’t really know what we were doing. However, we did know about great accommodation having travelled all over the world. We knew how the right property could change everything, and could create memories which would last a lifetime.

So when we opened the doors of Norfolk House in Yorkshire in 2016 I used myself as my “ideal” customer! What would I want if I was going away for a luxury girls weekend? And the rest was fairly easy.

It’s taken us years to perfect this business but now we’ve created something we are so proud of.

Over the years I’ve spoke to thousands of maids of honours and brides planning hen parties and I have sympathised with the pains that come with trying to organise a fabulous Hen Party weekend.

They complained they couldn’t find a venue, which would let them stay for one night! So we introduce our 1 Night Stay which has been a roaring success, especially for those who because of work commitments or young families weren’t able to commit to a whole weekend.

Sometimes the brides budget would not stretch to a weekend in high season so we introduce our low season price for a more Budget friendly experience. Same Great Hen Party House Just coming in a less popular season for hen parties, saving them hundreds of pounds.

Distraught brides who were coming to us very late after not having put their planning into process early enough and not being able to find any decent accommodation at short notice. We introduced our Sunday and midweek days to accommodate those who had left things till the last minute.

And finally, one thing that stands as apart from other Hen Party accommodations … we do not do compulsory packages. And because we’re not home by a large corporate company our pricing for activities are always at least £10 per person cheaper than our competitors.

Could you handover the keys to your forever home to a group of complete strangers every weekend?

No, neither could we!!

Where would you put all your own stuff?

How would you vet the guest to know they are okay?

Where will you go when the house is rented?

Won’t people steal stuff?

What if they won’t move out?

How do you get bookings?

These were some of the questions we faced… if we’d had a choice we probably wouldn’t have done this. We would’ve just sold the house and moved on.

But what actually happened out of this situation was…. I stumbled on a great business model. Which will give me passive income for life. I don’t have a pension, but I do have this home which can generate a huge income. But even more important for me, I’ve got a business that I can pass on to my kids which they can also continue to run and generate money for the rest of their lives. Imagine knowing that your kids will be set up for life even when you’re not here. For me that is the best feeling in the world. Even better than that, they don’t have to give up their chosen careers (they’ve decided to follow in their father’s footsteps and set up events) to continue this business they can just get a small team of people to manage the property. All the systems I’ve now set up are automated, and during the holidays I ensure that my kids know how the business runs by getting them to come and work alongside me.

I will write one stipulation into my world, which is they inherit this house, but they aren’t able to sell it. Because that is the most tempting thing of all to sell a large property and get instant gratification from the cash. But then that asset has gone and it can no longer generate money.

A few before and after of our green room… Which is confusingly now pink.

Huge rooms like these can take a maximal styling and interiors. I always choose a large bold print if I’m using wallpaper in our Georgian home.

I love William Morris paper however they’re small intricate designs do not work well with 15 feet high ceilings. The ditzy little partners just get lost.

You might be surprised to learn that after initially decorating most of the house when we moved in, I didn’t redecorate again for 18 years. Mainly because I chose timeless decor which didn’t date but also it’s a huge expense in labour and also materials decorating a space like this. It can be quite daunting as any mistake can be costly. I sit within the room for a long time deciding on the final elements and luckily I’ve never made a huge mistake.

All the best dates will be gone by then, and we’re already seeing many weekend dates for summer 2025 filling up quickly we are now taking bookings for 2026.

The sooner you send out your invites, the more likely you are to get a resounding “YES PLEASE!” Remember, your hens might be invited to up to 8 weddings or hen parties this year!

If you’re having trouble collecting money, don’t forget we offer a holding fee option of just £200 to confirm your stay. This gives you a little extra time to gather those deposits.

They say if your friendship last seven years, it will last a lifetime…

So 2024 has been a bumper year for us here at Norfolk House, but I didn’t book as much time off this year as I would do normally. Moving in and out of our forever home every single weekend can’t take its toll on your mental health and work, life balance.

In 2023, I booked one fabulous thing in every single month which included meeting up with friends and family are getting out of Huddersfield. For some reason during 2024 I didn’t plan in those breaks like I did the year before. And do you know what I’ve really felt it this year. Working this hard and sacrificing so much by moving every single weekend is so hard, if I don’t plan in some of those precious moments to remember. And if you don’t book them in, they just don’t happen.

So as we come to the end of this year, we always take the whole of December off and we’ve got so many nice things planned in. And I’m changing the way that I do things next year I’m starting the year by renting one cottage for the whole of January and February and I won’t be moving in and out. I’ll be staying put. That feels like a huge change in a positive way for me.

I’ve been having a little trial in my favourite cottage for the last two weeks in the beautiful village of Honley and I’ve already started making a special effort to meet up with all the people I’ve missed out on seeing this year.

is one of my oldest school friends and we have never lost touch over the years. We can go months without speaking and then catch up like we’ve never been apart. Last night we had a proper catch up a home-cooked meal and then Negroni’s at Punch tapas Love you Jason ❤️

🍒 that’s almost a wrap only two more hen parties to host in 2024 🍒

I’m definitely going to miss hosting over December, but for us our December is sacred and it’s all about family.

Do you know that we move out of our forever home almost every weekend? We rent out our Georgian mansion house located in West Yorkshire to 21 strangers every weekend (except December) Why do we do it… well it started as a necessity and turned into a passion.

We could never start this business without the Internet or our initial bookings from Airbnb. It really is amazing how technology has really improved setting up your own business.

Because all of our bookings now come direct, although we list on Airbnb, we do not take bookings via Airbnb. Do you know that we were paying up to £600 in commission for each booking to this giant online corporate company?
