Just beyond the cottage door is one of Norfolk’s quietest reserves..

This is the Ringstead Downs Nature Reserve, you may not have heard of it but it’s a beautiful chalk grassland (biggest of which in Norfolk) with its own valley which was carved out by glacial meltwater thousands of years ago.

This peaceful spot is home to an incredible variety of wildflowers and wildlife. As many as 20 species of butterfly have been recorded here, with the incredibly rare Queen of Spain Fritillary being spotted recently back in August!🦋

A lesser known corner of North Norfolk which we think is definitely worth discovering with a picnic in hand!🧺

A day well spent at one of North Norfolk’s beautiful nature reserves..🦩🦆🌿

One of the highlights of our visit was seeing some incredible wading birds up close, including elegant avocets, striking black-winged stilts, graceful black-tailed godwits, and the wonderfully distinctive ruffs.

We were also lucky enough to spot the elusive bearded t**s, a real treat for birdwatchers.

We wandered through the beautiful Biosonification Garden, a peaceful space where art, science and nature come together. The garden has been designed to encourage visitors to experience the sounds, rhythms and biodiversity of the natural world in a more mindful way, creating a calming and immersive environment that’s unlike anywhere else in Norfolk.

Along the way we also discovered beautiful stone art & sculptures, all wildlife-inspired. We admired the colourful flamingos, and couldn’t help but smile as ducklings, goslings and curious jackdaws wandered freely around the reserve looking for their next hand out of food.

There is so much more to enjoy here.

Whether you’re a keen birdwatcher, a nature enthusiast, or a family looking for a wholesome day out in North Norfolk, Pensthorpe is a place you’ll want to visit.

It’s just a short drive away from FlockCottage and it’s a haven for wildlife lovers, families, photographers and anyone looking to slow down and reconnect with nature. 🗺️🌿

Some of our highlights from the very first RHS Flower Show at Sandringham Estate 💐👑💐

When the The RHS brought its show to our beautiful corner of Norfolk, we couldn’t miss being part of the excitement… and we weren’t the only ones! Some of our lucky Flock Cottage guests were able to visit during their stay too 🤍

We wandered through inspiring gardens, admired incredible floral displays and discovered beautiful lifestyle treasures, along with those little touches that make a day out truly special… a glass of champagne, strawberries in the sunshine, and moments to simply enjoy the magic of it all 🍓 🥂

We are so lucky to be based in Ringstead, with incredible experiences like this right on our doorstep.
