Wow little something for everyone to read xx 😘
⚠️‼️ SAFETY INFORMATION ‼️⚠️
❗️SANDHOLE AND SAND TUNNEL COLLAPSE❗️
This week the team were tasked to a 6ft wide by 4ft deep hole dug in the beach at Sandilands. Teams along the coast have already been called out to several similar instances. Luckily, so far, there have been no casulties.
We want it to stay that way.
Just last week a 17 year old boy died in Italy after being buried alive when a sand tunnel he had dug collapsed on top of him suffocating him.
A year ago a 7 year old girl died on a beach in Florida after being engulfed in sand when the hole she and her brother were playing in caved in on top her.
These are the words of her mum after the tragic incident:
"It didn't matter that we were literally right there...It was just a hole, and then there's nothing. And then it just became chaos and horror.."
Such terror and helplessness for her family on that day is unimaginable.
We don't want to spoil anyone's fun on a day out at the beach - BUT WE DO WANT EVERYONE TO BE SAFE.
What might seem a fun, exciting challenge can quickly go hideously wrong.
The scariest thing about sandhole and sand tunnel collapse is the speed it happens - in the blink of an eye the sand can completely cave in trapping someone inside.
Two years ago this happened at Anderby Creek and fortunately quick action by family members kept the trapped person's airway clear until help arrived. Thankfully a happy ending.
Here are some essential safety tips:
KEEP IT SHALLOW - DIGGING IS FUN BUT NEVER DIG DEEPER THAN KNEE HEIGHT
SUPERVISE - ALWAYS WATCH CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE SAND
FILL IT IN - BEFORE YOU LEAVE, FILL IN ANY HOLES YOU’VE DUG
Let’s keep beach trips safe and fun for everyone! 🏄♂️🌞🏝️

Please note - the hole at Sandilands was created and not a sinkhole as speculated by some.
No comments aiming blame at parents thank you.
WE NEED TO EDUCATE NOT BLAME
