🏴 DRIVER TOUR GUIDES WANTED FOR 2027 – INVERGORDON 🚌
🌸 Thistle Excursions is expanding!
As our portfolio of shore excursions continues to grow, we are looking for two additional Driver Tour Guides to join our established team, working primarily from Invergordon Cruise Port during the 2027 cruise season.
This role involves driving and guiding small groups of up to 8 guests in our minivans, taking cruise visitors on sightseeing tours throughout the Scottish Highlands.
The work is seasonal, from April to October, depending on cruise ship arrivals, and could be ideal for a retired or semi-retired person, or someone who works flexible or part-time hours.
🚐 ABOUT THE ROLE
Our tours generally depart at approximately 9am and return around 5pm.
As a Driver Guide, you will drive one of our minivans while providing an enjoyable and informative tour for a small group of up to 8 guests.
During the busiest months, you should be willing and able to work approximately 1–4 days per week, although this varies according to cruise schedules and bookings.
Some work may be offered at relatively short notice – typically 1–3 days – so flexibility is important.
Driver Guides work with us on a self-employed consultancy basis.
💷 Pay: £175 per tour, plus tips
Our established regular guides can earn approximately £10,000–£12,000 over a cruise season, depending on availability and the number of tours undertaken.
⭐ WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Previous tour-guiding experience is not essential, as full training is provided.
We are looking for people who are:
• Confident and competent drivers
• Friendly, outgoing and comfortable speaking to small groups
• Enthusiastic about Scotland and the Highlands
• Dependable, punctual and well organised
• Happy meeting visitors from all over the world
• Flexible regarding working days
• Able to commit throughout the cruise season
Reliability is extremely important. Once you have agreed to undertake a tour, we and our guests are relying on you to be there.
We therefore ask applicants to be available throughout the April–October season, allowing, of course, for a reasonable holiday period.
Occasionally, a tour may have to be cancelled due to circumstances outside our control, such as a cruise ship being unable to dock or guest cancellations.
📚 FREE TRAINING PROVIDED
Successful applicants will receive free training during September 2026, spread over approximately one month and involving up to four training days in total.
Comprehensive written tour briefings are also provided, giving you the information and background needed to deliver each excursion confidently.
Because we invest considerable time and resources in training our Driver Guides, we are particularly interested in applicants who envisage being able to work with us for at least three seasons.
💜 UNIFORM & PRESENTATION
Our female guides wear our distinctive purple trouser suits, which are provided, while male guides wear a kilt or other agreed smart professional attire.
🤝 JOIN OUR TEAM
Thistle Excursions currently has a friendly and experienced team of 10 Tour Guides, all working together to give our cruise visitors a memorable experience of the Scottish Highlands.
If you’re a confident driver, enjoy meeting people and would love the opportunity to show visitors around this beautiful part of Scotland, we’d love to hear from you.
📩 Please send us a private message with a little information about yourself, your work background and why you think you would be suited to the role.
Please only apply if you are genuinely able to make a regular commitment throughout the 2027 cruise season.
