Great news 🥳 Our prices are staying the same for 2025 🔑
We're delighted that we are able to keep our self catering holidays the same price as 2024, when so much is rising around us. We hope you'll be able to join us on the estate this year.

Sound on 📣 Just listen to these happy swans on Loch Larrack enjoying their lunch recently ~ they are fed regularly on grain. Guests may well see them when they walk up to the lochs on the estate. A perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by.
Autumn on the estate is utterly breathtaking. Colours are bursting into life, there's a mild breeze and pheasants and deer rustle around you as you stroll the many paths.
Balnagown is truly an estate for all seasons.

Thank you to Jason from Tain & District Museum and Clan Ross Centre for these stories and photos from the archives.
Happy Halloween, everyone.... 👻
Property Showcase: The Cartshed
Located on the main square on the estate, our converted 18th century cartshed sleeps 4 and is pet friendly. Hop over the track to the sports hall and indoor gym, or if the sun is shining, choose a bike and helmet and go explore the numerous beautiful paths across the estate.
Day Trip from Balnagown: Portmahomack
Time: 20 mins
Terrain: Gravel tracks at lighthouse suitable for wheelchairs and prams, ramp and steps onto beach
Allow: Full or half day
Portmahomack boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the Highlands, and as the only local west-facing village, enjoys spectacular sunsets. You may even spot dolphins from the harbour!
You can't miss the lighthouse, a stunning spot for a stroll and a picnic on a sunny day, or a whistle-stop visit on a stormy winter day to see the waves crash on the rocks.
Portmahomack Golf Club is a links-style 9-hole course that is over 100 years old and their clubhouse offering food and drink opens Wednesday-Sunday.
It is also home to the Tarbat Discovery Centre, displaying works of art created in stone by the Picts more than 1200 years ago. The museum has limited opening hours over winter months but if you message them they'll open up for you.
The Carnegie Hall Cafe has recently re-opened with a delightful menu open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturdays.
Plenty of parking and public toilets just off the main street next to the beach.
Definitely one to visit if you're staying at our self-catering properties at Balnagown Estate.
There's Been a Visitor to the Osprey Nest...
Our nature cam has revealed a visitor scouting out the osprey nest on the estate recently. It shows a pine marten, probably attracted by the smell of fish. Luckily they weren't roosting in it during the night and the osprey chick has already fledged, as pine martens are known to take both chicks and eggs from osprey nests.
Roaring fires, a beautifully decorated real tree, twinkly lights across the estate, clear starry skies and hot toddies...
Christmas eve spent by the loch, rugged up with your loved ones toasting marshmallows... This is what memories are made of.
There's no place more magical for a Christmas getaway than Balnagown Estate ~ an estate for all seasons.

Tales from Balnagown ~ Treasure
This is the story of the hidden treasure in the Italian Garden, according to legend. Thank you to Jason at Tain and District Museum & Clan Ross Centre for sharing this wonderful story ~ whether there is any truth in it we do not know!
Caught on camera ~ recent nature cam footage of our resident deer frolicking in the mud!
Dornoch Bookshop
Dornoch Bookshop is a fantastic independent bookshop just 20 minutes from the estate.
It plays host to great writers such as international author Kirsty Gunn, in this clip at her book signing celebrating her latest collection of short stories, 'Pretty Ugly'.
We love to showcase the incredible independent businesses that help make the Highlands the best place to visit and to live!
