If you can p**s you can paint.
My latest customers comment.
“ I’ve never known a decorator to spend so long on preparing “
There is a saying , “fail to prepare, prepare to fail “.
Now I’m certainly not one for slagging off my fellow tradesmen.
That’s not my style, however, it’s important for me to explain what went on previously and what your options are this time around .
Here is a photo of a Previously heavily rolled wall . Either lack of knowledge or just a quick job.No judgement intended.
For emulsion to stick , you don’t need to rub down , however, if you don’t , it will show through and look like your work, and because my name is on the job I like to offer the removal of these heavy roller marks.
It will add few hours onto the job but this is where you can come unstuck when employing a decorator or getting an estimate.
On this particular job we are doing like for like , e.g “timeless for timeless “
Dulux standard colour.
As you can see in the photo, because we’ve had to rub back , the previous colour has come through which unfortunately this time is much darker , hence now requiring more coats .
Unfortunately, decorating in my opinion has been underrated as a trade for far too long .
Nothing is perfect, I get that , but I try and treat it as an art and be as honest to the customer as I possibly can by explaining the process as I go.
Also, there are decorators out there charging more a day than myself , but will get the jobs in a competitive market (because everyone has different standards) because they wouldn’t go to these lengths. They can be in and out in much lesser time so are able to profit more a day .
It’s good to get recommendations and ask questions to the decorator and get them to explain their personal procedures .
This way , you know what you are getting for your money.
The customers don’t often see what the professionals do, and you may think you are getting a bargain and you may be happy with that which is fine .
It’s like anything in life , there are different levels and painting is no different, despite the reputation it has .
You will always get some effect on the wall with a roller , but there is a major disparity between a correctly applied and layed off finish with a decent sleeve compared to a quick roll .
Also a trade paint has better coverage and laying off abilities compared to a retail in many situations.
The retails consistency is thick but it’s deceiving, the coverage is not so good .
When we use a quality trade paint we have room for some water to give it flow , which aswell as rolling off nicely it helps with cutting in and getting those crisp sexy straight lines we love too see .
If you want to have a go yourself and save some money,my advice is free and you are welcome to message me and I will help where and when I can .
Well done if you’ve managed to get to the end without falling asleep.
It’s like watching paint dry…. Pun intended.
Much love,
❤️
