Leo - my gorgeous, gorgeous baby boy. How are you 7?

I’ve been trying to write this all day but keep starting to blub. Who knew birthdays were such emotional things for parents? All the excitement you feel yet, all the while, your mummy’s heart is breaking inside knowing you need her a little less than last year.

Mummy and Daddy, Grandad and Grumpy, Nana and Grandma (🕯️🪽) and all your sisters are SO immensely proud of the hilarious, gentle, kind, clever and sweet human you are. We all love you so much and hope that being 7 is every bit as wonderful as 6 has been (and maybe even a little bit more).

Happy birthday little man - the absolute best son, grandson and big brother that any of us could wish for. 🎂 🎈 🥳

The last few weeks have been a crazy rollercoaster of emotions and hard work, but it paid off!

To many this won’t mean much. Some will understand, many won’t. But being one of the winners of this incredible competition is, without exaggeration, completely and utterly, genuinely life changing.

I feel so lucky, especially given the insane talent I was up against. I’m still in disbelief (and have cried daily since Wednesday)!

Thank you SO much for this amazing opportunity and for believing in me. I promise I won’t let you down!

Sweet dreams gorgeous boy. Thank you for 12.5 years of joy, cuddles, love, fluff and mess - wouldn’t change any of it for the world. You have left a massive hole in our hearts and been with us through some of the hardest times we’ve ever had to face. But you were ready. Looking a little different! It has taken more than a small number of tears, extreme stress, anxiety, worry and sleepless nights to get to this point. Something which should have taken 8 months is still ongoing after 3 years (I’ll let you figure out what effect that had on budget 🙈).
It finally feels like the end may actually be in sight and I hope, when it is and it’s finally welcoming guests, no longer thinking about it all the time will help me fall in love with it again. At the moment I still struggle to face it, to talk about it or to think about it and that, in itself, breaks my heart. I truly hope though that one day it’ll be somewhere I love to be once again, that’s as precious to my children as it has been to me and that once again it’ll feel like home 🏡

One of the strangest parts of doing this project is the fact I almost didn’t want to change anything at all. I say almost but even that’s a stretch. More than anything I wanted it to be the same as it always had been only, what that meant, was having the people there who made this place so special. I know I can never have that but it’s always been in my mind, that I needed to make this home something beautiful, transform it, but not so much that it was unrecognisable…

I think I’ve achieved that. At least, I hope I will have by the time the finishing touches are added.

Thank you and for putting up with me and helping with my need to drastically change everything but keep it all the same 🙏🤗
