During flood events, the River Glen is subject to sudden and damaging changes of course and the deteriorating floodbanks have already failed during major flooding in 2008, 2009 and 2015/16. This can damage land and infrastructure and often leaves salmon stranded as they migrate upstream.
We’re working in partnership with the Environment Agency, Natural England and Westnewton, College Valley, Lanton and Yeavering Estates to put measures in place that will improve flood resilience and allow the river to evolve as naturally as possible.
This is one of a number of pieces of work that we’ve undertaken as part of the Till River Restoration Strategy. For more information, check out our website https://tweedforum.org/news/work-begins-on-river-glen-restoration-and-flood-risk-management-project/.
Funding for the River Glen Restoration and Flood Risk Project has been obtained through a Water Environment Grant (WEG) provided by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
