It’s a popular place for visitors who have always come here from near & far as it’s such a lovely place to spend an hour or two before returning to the bustle of busy city life... but we live here, went to school here and work here. Kendal TV brings you news, views and stories from the Auld Grey Town, whether you’re a local, a visitor or you used to live here and have moved to another part of the world, we’ll keep you in touch with what’s happening here in South Lakes. We also want to promote our town and local business. From small tea rooms and craft shops to large international companies we can feature your business on facebook, instantly reaching 1000’s of local people. Young businessman organises event in support of farmers
A 15 - year old from Weardale who runs his own business while also studying for GCSEs has organised a novel way to show his support for the farming community after the shock of the recent Budget.
Jack Collins from Eastgate who runs his own business selling caravans nationwide, is a Year 11 student at Wolsingham School. With the permission of the school, Jack has organised an event that will see fellow pupils showing solidarity with the farmers in the rural area where he lives, works and is educated.
On November 19th – British Farming Day - he and fellow pupils will discard their uniform school shoes and wear boots to school instead, to show their support for the agricultural community in which they live.
“No matter our age, we must all support farmers and farming. Both are very important to us all, not just those who live in rural areas,” Jack said.
“The change in Inheritance Tax will see the end of small farms around the country – less farms means less food. Farmers work 24/7, 365 days of the year and they are punished for apparently being rich.”
“We must let them see that we all support them and understand the problems they face.”
Jack has the support of the students and staff at Wolsingham School and has also persuaded the head teacher to agree to more PSHE lessons on the importance of farming,
