Learn how to weave with willow, soft rushes, wool and other natural materials. A crafty day at Mugdock country park, north of Glasgow, and surrounding countryside. Learn to make a christmas wreath, natural cordage, wool friendship bracelet, a five strand brade, St Bridget’s cross, a rattle and small baskets. Learning weaving skills is completely absorbing mindful activity, great to relax and really satisfying. Also, if you work or volunteer in the outdoors (maybe you’re a teacher, a mountain leader or run a scout group or youth club), these skills are a great outdoor experience for participants.

Getting excited! Heading back to Norway on Monday for another Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Expedition. A team of five open participants have been planning their route for months now. They'll be starting their journey by taking a ferry along the length (30km) of Lake Bygdin, then journing into the heart of the Jotemheim mountains. DofE Scotland

I'm not long back from guiding one of our Shetland Walking Holidays with four clients. As ever, the landscape, wildlife, culture and people were wonderful. We visited: Culswick, Mousa, Fethaland, Unst, St Ninian's Isle, Papa Stour, Sumburgh head and lots of archaeological sites like Jarlsholf and Stanydale. Highlights for me were visiting Halligarth wood in Unst, the most northerly wood in Britain, full of beautiful sycamores; visiting St Ninian's Isle beach at sunset; and lastly walking around the amazinf island of Papa Stour.
