There’s something to be said for starting your holiday feeling relaxed before you’ve even boarded the aircraft.

This weekend reminded me why Norwich Airport is one of East Anglia’s best-kept travel secrets.

We arrived around two hours before departure, parked just a few steps from the terminal entrance, checked in, cleared security and were enjoying cocktails within 15 minutes. No endless queues, no long walks through huge terminals and no stressful start to the holiday.

For many travellers across Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire, it’s well worth checking Norwich before automatically heading to the larger London airports.

If you’re visiting Norwich, make sure you put Norwich Cathedral on your list.

It’s one of the city’s best-known landmarks and has been here for over 900 years. Whether you enjoy history, architecture or just like exploring interesting places, it’s well worth a visit.

The cathedral is free to enter, and you can spend as little or as much time there as you like. Walk around the beautiful cloisters, admire the impressive stonework, or simply sit for a few minutes and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Even if you’ve been to Norwich before, it’s one of those places that’s always worth going back to.

12 Florence Experiences You Shouldn’t Leave Without Trying 🇮🇹✨

Florence isn’t a city you simply tick off a list. It’s a place to slow down, create something with your own hands, eat incredible food and discover why the Renaissance began here.

If you’re visiting, these are the experiences I’d recommend every time:

1. Climb Brunelleschi’s Dome
Forget the view for a moment. The real magic is climbing between the two shells of one of the greatest engineering masterpieces ever built before emerging above the rooftops of Florence.

2. Meet Michelangelo’s David
Don’t rush in, snap a photo and leave. Walk through the unfinished Prisoners sculptures first, then let David reveal himself at the end of the gallery. It’s one of those rare moments that genuinely gives you goosebumps.

3. Lose yourself in the Uffizi Gallery
Stand in front of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Primavera. Seeing them in person is completely different from seeing them in a book or online.

4. Learn from Florentine artisans
This is the Florence most visitors miss. Spend a few hours making fresh pasta, crafting leather, trying traditional gold leaf decoration, learning bookbinding, weaving on historic looms, painting marbled paper, making authentic gelato or tasting Tuscan wines. You’ll leave with more than photos—you’ll leave with new skills and memories.

5. Cross Ponte Vecchio at sunrise
Before the jewellery shops open and before the crowds arrive, the bridge feels timeless. It’s one of the few moments you’ll have it almost to yourself.

6. Watch sunset from San Miniato al Monte
Everyone heads to Piazzale Michelangelo. Walk another ten minutes uphill and you’ll be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking views over Florence—without fighting for space.

7. Wander through Oltrarno
Cross the river and explore the quieter side of Florence. Hidden workshops, tiny cafés, artisan studios and beautiful streets make this my favourite part of the city.

8. Eat where the locals eat
Step away from the tourist menus. Explore Sant’Ambrogio Market, enjoy a long Tuscan lunch, try bistecca alla Fiorentina, handmade pasta, local cheeses, gelato and finish with an espresso like a true Florentine.

9. Explore Palazzo Vecchio and the Boboli Gardens
One tells the story of Florence’s power and the Medici family, the other lets you escape into peaceful gardens with sculptures, hidden paths and incredible city views.

10. End the day beside the Arno
After dinner, stroll from Ponte alle Grazie towards Ponte Santa Trinita. As the lights reflect on the river and the city quietens, Florence becomes even more magical.

11. Create something. 12. Taste something. Learn something. Talk to local artisans. Wander without a map. Sit in a piazza with a gelato. That’s when Florence stops being a destination and starts becoming an experience you’ll never forget.
