At the heart of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Kingsbridge is an extremely friendly town and our aim in the Information Centre is to make you feel like a local

At the head of the Salcombe Estuary, Kingsbridge is at the heart of the South Hams, a designated AONB at the southernmost point of Devon. As the shopping hub of the area, Kingsbridge has an eclectic selection of family

-run shops including butchers, bakeries, a fishmongers, greengrocer, wine shops and delicatessens. The town has a whole host of intriguing antique shops, art galleries, and gift shops. Complementing that are cafes, pubs serving local ales by South Hams and Salcombe Breweries and Salcombe Gin. With a 3 screen cinema, yoga studio and leisure centre with swimming pool there are plenty of opportunities to stay active and entertained. Explore the town via passages such as Squeezebelly Lane and discover not only Kingsbridge's history but hidden treasures such as mosaics, a community garden and miniature railway. The quay overlooks the mudflats of the estuary, and in the summer visitors and locals all take to the water in their boats or on paddleboards. Birdwatching, fishing and walks are all on the agenda with the South West Coast Path just minutes away and an easy car journey or bus journey to Dartmoor and South Devon beaches. An enthusiastic and friendly local crowd work hard all year to put on events such as Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival, Fair Week and Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas. With windows filled with posters for clubs and events, there is always something going on, whether it be the Farmers Market, art workshops, or concerts. The Kingsbridge Information Centre sits conveniently on the Town Square, accessible and award-winning, their aim is to make everyone feel like a local. Happy to recommend places to eat and things to do, the Information Centre stocks maps, walks, souvenirs and gifts. They also sell tickets to local events, and cards by local artists. We just had to share this lovely story from Kingsbridge Care Hub.

Their beautiful garden - admired by everyone who passes is the incredible handiwork of trustee Julia McGing, who has spent the last 10 years transforming a dull patch of land into a vibrant, colourful welcome to the Community Centre.

Julia tends every plant herself, in all weathers, and also creates their gorgeous window boxes and planters.

No surprise she was named one of this year’s Kingsbridge Community Champions for her dedication and green‑fingered talent.

OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS SHE HAS SINGLEHANDEDLY TRANSFORMED A DULL PATCH OF LAND INTO A STUNNING, COLOURFUL ‘ENTRANCE’ TO OUR COMMUNITY CENTRE
JULIA DOES EVERYTHING HERSELF FROM PLANTING; GROWING SEEDLINGS ON; WEEDING; TENDING AND WATERING – IT TRULY IS A LABOUR OF LOVE ON HER PART, ESPECIALLY SO IN BAD WEATHER OR ON COLD FROSTY MORNINGS
JULIA IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OUR GORGEOUS WINDOW BOXES AND PLANTERS
UNSURPRISINGLY, OUR GARDEN IS VERY MUCH ADMIRED BY EVERYONE WHO PASSES AND WE WERE DELIGHTED THAT JULIA WAS CHOSEN BY KINGSBRIDGE TOWN COUNCIL AS ONE OF THIS YEAR’S COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS FOR HER WONDERFUL WORK AS A LONG SERVNG TRUSTEE OF OUR LOCAL CHARITY AND FOR HER INCREDIBLE GREEN FINGERS!
