This is the largest dog that has canoed with us this year, very enthusiastic at the start but quietened down for a sit in the boat

Hi Dave,

It was lovely to meet you too!

Thank you for such a wonderful evening yesterday, we thoroughly enjoyed the canoeing 🛶. It was extremely enjoyable and Ananya loved the way you brought such interesting facts about botany, geography and history into the experience.

Special thanks for being so accommodating of our noisy, inquisitive fur baby And being so patient with us slow paddlers!

Many thanks
Reshmi

It may look pretty, but this plant is destroying river banks and natural habitats for river side animals.

Himalayan balsam introduced to the UK During the 1800s as an attractive ornamental, but it quickly escaped and established itself in the wild.

A plant with no natural predators, it was able to grow freely, colonising in damp ground one of it's favourite areas, causing problems for native plants and animals.

It is now, thankfully illegal to cause it to grow in the wild thanks to Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and countryside Act of 1981.

Late summer and early autumn are a great time to watch dragonflies and damselflies flitting above our wetland habitats, but do you know the key differences between these similar species❓

Dragonflies...
✅ Generally larger
✅ Strong, fast and agile flight
✅ Hold their wings out at right angles to their body at rest
✅ Large eyes that generally meet at the top of their head

Damselflies...
✅ Tend to be small and delicate with a thin abdomen
✅ Relatively slow and weak flight compared to dragonflies
✅ Most species hold their wings close along the length of their abdomen at rest
✅ Their eyes are always separated

An Avon paddle this evening

Really wonderful paddle with Dave from Aveton Gifford. We were a party of two inept adults and a child who generally doesnt sit still on dry land. We had a great time and discovered so much about the plant and animal life on the river. Paddling was easier than I expected so I'd definitely recommend Singing Paddles if you've never tried anything like this before. Also a perfect opportunity to chill out on the water. Thanks Dave!
