🌊 DAY 5 — FIRST SURF AT PACIFICO 🇵🇭
First full surf day up north at and wow… Burgos hits different.
Started the morning at the yoga chalet — calm air, jungle sounds, ocean out front — then straight down to the beach for my first surf on a completely new wave with a new board and a new instructor, Romel.
The first few waves were shaky (as expected 😅). New takeoff, different timing, different energy. But wave by wave I started settling in. Cleaner pop-ups, better positioning… and a few wipeouts along the way. One of them definitely involved catching an edge and diving head-first — all part of the process 😂
Huge appreciation for the instructors here. Patient, encouraging, and genuinely stoked to see you progress. One of my favourite moments was sharing a wave with one of them — I dropped in by mistake, but instead of any bad vibes there was laughter, encouragement and cheers. That’s exactly why surfing with local instructors matters — you learn faster and the lineup stays positive.
Being based in Burgos puts you in such a strong position to chase the best conditions along the coastline. We checked a few spots, but Big Wish at Pacifico was the call today — long walls, clean faces, blue water and blue skies everywhere.
The retreat includes video analysis, so my best wave of the session was caught on camera and broken down afterwards. Such a massive help when you’re trying to progress properly on unfamiliar breaks.
After surfing, the camp sorted my scooter rental — delivered straight to the retreat — and a few of us rode over to the west coast for sunset. Met some local kids, shared stories, watched the sky light up. One of those simple, perfect island evenings.
Days like this remind me exactly why I’m building Raw Destinations UK — surf progression, genuine connections, and places that feel worlds away from the busy spots.
More from life up north coming next 🤙🌅
