Today is a windy day in Orkney.
My planned tour for today has been cancelled as the master of the visiting cruise ship with my guests on board has decided not to make his port call into Kirkwall.
Orkney is a group of islands. A sun kissed, rain washed, wind dried archipelago of twenty inhabited islands (and around 50 more smaller uninhabited ones).
Beautiful beaches, great baking, superb craftspeople, expert farmers raising cattle , sheep, barley and oats, and more archaeology than we know what to do with. Modern technology particularly in marine renewable energy sits comfortably alongside the ancient history.
You can get to Orkney by air with Loganair, or by one of the three ferry routes operated by Northlink Ferries or Pentland Ferries.
