Heading to The Great Knaresborough Bed Race this Saturday? Good to Know 👇

💷 Bring cash if you can
To avoid queues and disappointment, we advise visitors to bring some cash. The town has limited ATMs, and they often run out on very busy days.

🏦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐛 (𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞) will kindly be open 9am–1pm for cash withdrawals — a big thank you to the team for supporting the event!

You’ll also find ATMs outside 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨 and 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐲’𝐬 on the High Street.

📱 EE customers should note that signal issues are still ongoing, so there may be disruption to calls and texts.

Please note road closures (including the High Street) will be in place during the day, so please plan ahead and allow extra time. The main closures will start from 12 noon.

🅿️ A free 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 & 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 will run from GSPK, Manse Lane.

🚆 Trains run regularly on the Leeds–York line, with buses also operating from Harrogate.

🎉 Just four days to go until The Great Knaresborough Bed Race !🛏️ 🏃

One of Yorkshire’s most unique and much-loved events returns on Saturday 13th June, bringing colour, creativity and plenty of fun to the town.

🎭 Watch the decorated beds assemble at Castle Top from 10am, enjoy the parade through the town from 1pm, and head to Conyngham Hall for family entertainment, food, live music and, of course, the famous race itself starting at 3pm.

🏃‍♂️ 90 teams will take part in the gruelling 2.4-mile time trial around Knaresborough, finishing with the iconic crossing of the River Nidd – one of the highlights of the day!

☕ While you're here, make time to explore Knaresborough’s independent shops, cafés, pubs and beautiful riverside scenery.

🎉 The Great Knaresborough Bed Race returns on Saturday 13th June 2026!

One of Yorkshire’s most unique and entertaining events is back, bringing decorated beds, costumed teams, and plenty of community spirit to the streets of Knaresborough.

🛏️ Theme for 2026: The Swinging Sixties
🎭 Parade starts at 1:00pm
🏃 Race starts at 3:00pm
🎉 Activities begin from around 10:30am

Expect colourful costumes, creative bed designs, and the famous river crossing as teams tackle the challenging 2.4-mile course.

🚍 Free Park & Ride is available from GSPK at Manse Lane, operated by Connexions.

🚗 Prefer to park closer? King James School is offering all-day parking for £5, with proceeds supporting Macmillan.

A Royal connection in Knaresborough 👑

Today’s visit by His Majesty The King is a wonderful reminder of Knaresborough’s long-standing royal connection.

Did you know that Knaresborough Castle was once a royal summer residence? In 1331, it was gifted to Philippa of Hainault as part of her marriage settlement when she married Edward III. During her ownership, the castle evolved from a military fortress into a luxurious retreat for the royal family. Later, it passed to her son, John of Gaunt.

Today, the castle remains part of the Duchy of Lancaster, continuing its remarkable royal legacy, while currently being managed by North Yorkshire Council.

A royal visit today and centuries of royal history to discover every day in Knaresborough. ✨

From 24 May to 30 August, enjoy relaxing Sunday afternoons filled with live music in the beautiful surroundings of Knaresborough Castle. Bring a picnic, meet friends and soak up the atmosphere while talented bands perform from 2pm.

Free to attend, with donations welcome to support the bands.
