Lodge update… a new blog is live. Here we cover most of the beaches around The Northern Highlands giving a view in what is special about each. We are perfectly situated the middle of these - when you stay with us just check out where the weather is best and go that way! Check out www.ceolmor.co.uk for the detail.

Friday Photo Time. Black Isle Brewery. We would say that we are very light drinkers and generally go for quality over quantity (a bit like our lodges 😍). If you like a tipple of any type of beer then a trip to the Black Isle Brewery could be the thing for you - especially if you're already on the peninsula. Just turn up for a tour - a very rustic experience with a taster at the end. Definitely don't expect a full on corporate experience - we love the rustic genuinely Highland approach.

A time lapse of Storm Floris arriving today….and a bit of the aftermath. Everyone is safe and the lodges held up. Contingency plans kicked in to help guests while the power was off for the afternoon. We’ve cleared the drive so our guests can continue the next leg of their holiday and new guests can arrive. The wildest day we have ever seen…even wilder than winter!

Friday photo time. The Cromarty Firth. While this firth has a history of industrialisation and once was one of Britain's most important naval bases, there is loads of wildlife to find in its waters. We took a RIB ride out where we saw loads of sea birds and also saw some of the fortifications from WW1. We had hoped to see dolphins but, unfortunately they were not to be seen that day - although we did see them later at Chanonry Point.

Friday Photo Time. Berriedale - a small village on the East Coast of Caithness - the southern most village before crossing into Sutherland (if heading south). There is lots of drama here - the beach can be super dramatic with waves crashing in and to get to it is a very old swing bridge - only 2 people max to cross at a time. There's some beautiful cottages overlooking the shore and great cliffs at either end. At the southern end, climb up to the ruins of Berriedale castle and the memorial. Don't forget lunch or snacks at the Rover House Bothy!

Friday Photo Time. Back in April this year we were privileged to host Kirstin & Enzo who were getting married at Ardvreck Castle. Kirstin had a night first on her own and Yvonne helped with her wedding dress before being picked up by Andy Taylor, the photographer, and taken to the castle and some stunning locations for photos. Very kindly, Kirstin & Enzo have allowed us to post a small selection of photos taken by the talented Andy Taylor. We're sure you agree that the couple look absolutely stunning!

Friday Photo Time. East coast harbours. On the east coast there are loads of little harbours tucked away in beautiful spots with great views over the North Sea. From John O'Groats in the far north, then Wick, Lybster, Whaligoe, Latheron Wheel, Dunbeath, Helmsdale and Brora. Add in the dramatic beach at Berriedale (see next week's post) and some fab places for a snack or lunch such as Tasty Toes or the River House Bothy. Some have brilliant picnic views too - Latheron Wheel pictured here.

Friday Photo Time. We're going to run a few weeks of East Coast attractions and locations - for a change 😏. Here's the Whaligoe Steps - right up in Caithness. There's 365 steps set into a steep cliff that go down to a small natural harbour that was used at the height of the herring fishing era in the 1800's. A fascinating bit of history, lovely views...steps are not for the faint hearted though! Next week, we'll show you a little video of them!
