This weekend Danny and Matty welcomed back the York lads. Saturdays scary forecast forced us to stay as sheltered as possible so we opted for a pleasant amble up towards Stob Ban from Glen Nevis. We refreshed some skills once we reached some useful snow before popping our heads over the Col for a brief exfoliation in the 70mph winds then retracing our steps.

Today conditions by contrast were stonking. With strong southerly winds expected to lull around midday, we drove over to Glen Shiel to climb A' Chralaig north of the road. At 1120m, this fine summit has incredible vistas in every direction and luckily the forecast was correct and we experienced almost idyllic conditions all day. Good firm snow from 950m and easy going for the team. Thanks to Gary, Tony, James, Rich, Danny and Danny for being absolute legends as always, it was great to catch up!

DEEP 2 PEAK - 25th Sept 2021

The latest in our series of events raising money for . This challenge involved 9 colleagues from PEN-trust swimming (and another 8 paddling) 5km, the length of Wast Water, England's deepest lake, at an impressive 80m deep. Then in the afternoon ascend Scafell Pike at 978m England's highest peak, for good measure.

Setting off from the south-west end of the lake at 8:30am, the swimmers set off at their own pace under the watchful eyes of Ant and Jack. They soon spread out but each just finding their own rythym. Once the paddlers were brought up to speed by Graham and Declan, they were also onside to provide support. The canoes and equipment were provided by , thanks a bunch.

Meanwhile Danny and Heidi watched the spectacle unfold from various points along the shore. From the binoculars, it was clear the team were well prepared for the task in hand, all completing the swim in under 2 hours, twas a privilege to watch.

Once back on shore, changed, fed and watered, it was time to tackle Scafell Pike. Unsurprisingly this was also dispatched easily by the entire team of 17 led by Danny and Heidi. The summit was reached at around 2pm but sadly there was not much of a view, just lots of rain so we didn't linger long. We were back at the cars before 4, the challenge taking 7 1/2 hours in total!!! Unbelievable. A huge well done to the entire team at PEN, such a close bunch, so equally matched on the hill and extremely supportive towards each other throughout the challenge. Finally, special thanks to Ben and Heidi for organising the event. Lots of memories made with plans for the next challenges already in the pipeline.

GLENCOE TO FORT WILLIAM
Last weekend we were back raising money with the Lord's Taverners in the Scottish Highlands.

This challenge involved a 37km walk from Glencoe along the West Highland Way to Fort William. The weather was kind to us for most of the day and the team were super determined to reach the end. A super successful day and over £18k raised for disadvantaged children wishing to take part in sport. A big congratulations to everyone who took part and a huge thanks to Dave, Matt and Tom for providing support and keeping everyone on track.
