Wow a throw back to almost 4 years to the day when we welcomed our first guests into the room we call Lanstefan view ! I can’t believe it’s been 4 years of doing this!

We have changed things slightly. We now send all bed linen to be ironed at the Laundry Basket who are just brilliant.

My son and dad (Ziggy) do the room changes and Ziggy does a great job of messaging guides and welcoming them and doing a guided tour of the cells if no one is staying in them.

It’s been a journey but it is great to meet people from all over the world. We often get Australian, New Zealand, and Canadian guests who have Cornish ancestry.

99.9% of people are a joy to host - there’s always one 😬🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

If you’ve been to stay at the Old Police Station you will know that Emma has made the cushions, bins and bags for toiletries and towels that are in the rooms.
Sometimes people ask if they can buy them so I usually keep a stock of a few bits that peoole can buy.
As I have been taking a bit of respite from my ‘day jobs’ I have enjoyed making some more cushions and bins.
Small bins are 13” tall and 8” wide/deep, large bins are 21” tall and 12” wide/deep. I can make some to suit your colour scheme.
Bins have vinyl inserts so that they can be easily wiped clean. You also remove them and put them in the washing machine on a cool wash.
Here are some examples of bins and cushions i have recently made. Prices may vary based on the cost of fabric used:

Reviews - from the sublime to the ridiculous !

Spring is well under way here and the sun is out today! We have guests in at the moment and have had a steady stream, with things looking busy as we move into June, July, and August. We do have some gaps so please feel free to call Ziggy on 07305 566234 if you need somewhere to stay and can’t see it online.

We do chuckle at some of the reviews we get. We have a notebook in each room and also reviews on booking. com and Google.

We are rated 9.3 and 9.5 so that’s pretty good. However, we sometimes have some slightly ‘quirky’ reasons for reducing the rating.

For example, one person complained that it took them too long to get to Launceston from Scotland ! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m really sorry about that, we’ll do better next time! 😬

Another complained about the ‘rubble’ in the garden - Ziggy was particularly miffed about this, stating to me ‘humph, that’s my unique and priceless Cornish stone that I’ve been collecting for my rockery and water feature’ - we do let everyone know that we are still working on parts of the interior and exterior - it’s an old, rustic, and beautiful building that takes time and care getting right.

Another marked us down because the drive is narrow - we do warn people about this and check what vehicle they are bringing, beforehand. We are lucky to have private parking where we are so guests don’t have to pay. Often, when I demonstrate how I (a girl no less ! 🤣) drive my T5 campervan in and out daily, the chaps relent. 😊

We are, apparently, ‘pennypinching’ because we don’t put a full loo roll 🧻 in - yes we do, just Ziggy insists on starting the loo roll to save guests the trouble doing it themselves. And there are spares in the cupboard. We also let people know they can have as many loo rolls as they want and to ask if they run out! In fact, Ziggy will pretty much pop out and get anything you feel is missing - within reason.

On the whole we have some really lovely and well thought out comments. We appreciate constructive feedback and have even had a hotel inspector stay recently (inspecting hotels in Cornwall, not us!) who gave us some really helpful feedback and information relating to the latest guidelines for the hotel industry. (NB we are NOT a hotel but we do our best to keep our standards high.)

Anyhow, thought these might amuse you 🤣

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

Hey everyone - I just wanted to let you know about a friend’s holiday let near Holsworthy called Dilly Dally Barn.
It is in a beautiful spot surrounded by nature and very spacious with a large garden to sit in!

You should be able to get to it via the link below or just Google ‘Dilly Dally Barn’.

I’ll be visiting it soon and I’ll take some photos ! 😊

Great savings on hotels in Holsworthy, United Kingdom online. Good availability and great rates. Read hotel reviews and choose the best hotel deal for your stay.

When you are visiting Launceston you will find that it has TWO record shops. Keep Audio Co. also have a lovely friendly cafe!

We can often be found here working on our laptops and meeting friends and colleagues!

Not forgetting the Keep Audio is home to the monthly songwriters open mic (3rd Weds) and folk night (1st Weds) as well as some of the folk club concerts in The Bakehouse.

Dale also does sound for us at folk club concerts in other venues and runs plenty of his own events: album listening parties, quiz nights, Sunday afternoon chill, Blues jam with and DJs at Firebrand Taproom!

All round great place, great coffee ☕️, great vinyl! Check out what’s going on here when you come to stay!

Hello!

I am conscious I haven’t posted for a long while. Many of you may know that I have other roles and I have been very busy with Launceston Folk Club and Wreckers Radio .

There is so much going on in our lovely little town and I thought, as you may be visiting, I’d start sharing some of that here too.

This video is from St Piran’s Day on the 5th of March where we celebrate Cornwall’s patron Saint and everyone sings the Cornish National Anthem at 9pm at a Trelawny Shout.

We had a lovely evening at The Bell Inn in Launceston as you can see! 😊

A lovely drive through the beautiful Luxulyan valley, literally fairyland, where I stopped and had my lunch and paddled in the river. Only 35-45 minutes from Launceston depending on traffic etc.. lovely walks down there and you can visit the Treffry Viaduct - a feat of engineering! 🌳 🧚🏻 🌺

Had a lovely impromptu camping trip last night at Canna Farm Campsite on the edge of the stunning Luxulyan Valley, one of my favourite places! Beautifully kept campsite, well organised and the pitches are nicely spaced and private. Loos, showers, spring water for drinking and washing stations. And there’s a little shop thst opens twice a day for essentials a locally farm sourced meat for cooking - fires/bbqs encouraged! I’ll be back for sure!
It was late when I arrived so my photos don’t do it justice - check out their page!
