Custom made exhausts for the Lotus Elise/Exige/Evora/Emira platforms. We’re now our 16th year of concentrating production on the Lotus Elise/Exige/Evora.
Welcome to 2bular's page,
My name is Jim Valentine and I’ve been designing and manufacturing Stainless Steel performance exhausts for over 33 years. In that time, 2bular has earned a world-wide reputation as a quality product in design and finish. My exhausts are hand-built and TIG-welded here, in sunny Aberdeenshire, UK. I probably have the largest range of exhaust designs available for
these cars. A lot of time and effort goes into R&D to make sure 2bular is top of the wish list for any Elise/Exige/Evora enthusiast. All over the world, owners and tuning shops appreciate that drive to have an exhaust which looks good and performs better than the rest. List of 2bular firsts:
• The large-bore 4-1 header/manifold for the supercharged 2zz-ge motor.
• An 8”dia, track-friendly system – GT3 and behind the grille off-set oval design.
• Stepped primary 4-2-1 header/manifold for the n/a 2zz-ge motor.
• 4-2-1 header/HJS manifold for the 1zz-fe motor.
• 127mm dia HJS HD Sports Cat for the hi-power SC motors.
• 100mm dia HJS sports cats for the N/A installs.
• Noise-cancelling chambered silencers (H1 & H2), main & de-cat.
• Evora & Exige V6 – different manifold/systems for N/A and SC cars. Noise
It’s not difficult to improve on the note of the factory exhaust. With a straight-thru silencer and the correct bore, you can have a great sportscar note – makes the car sound like it looks! Most owners are happy with that. I use different bores and different silencers for each install – specifically designed for each motor – it’s the only way to achieve best sound, best performance and save the most weight. I see some firms offering the same exhaust for the 130bhp 1zz-fe Elise S, the 190bhp 2zz-ge Elise R and the 240bhp Exige S. They’d rather stock just the one system – cheaper for them – very sad/desperate. Track usage:
Different ball-game now. I can make a wonderful sounding exhaust but you won’t be allowed on track with it! There are some very tight noise limits being introduced and these are being rigidly enforced. It’s difficult to be specific but I don’t usually have any problems with N/A or Turbo cars, provided the Cat is retained or a Silenced De-Cat Pipe (SDCP) is fitted. The Supercharged cars; these are the problem installs. More power = More NOISE. For track use these days, 4-cyl owners will need an 8"dia silencer with an internal noise-cancelling chamber! V6 owners hoping to track with 350-400bhp have been ignored by the Lotus factory so I have developed several silencer options - including tailpipe add-ons. Be aware that CAI (Cold Air Intake) kits and supercharger noise will also generate significant NOISE. Fitting a De-Cat pipe on a Supercharged motor and hoping to meet a noise limit is stupid. Silencer Packing:
N/A and Turbo cars are positively benign with their stresses on packing material I use - Acoustafil ZT-1 material – hi-tech and very expensive. Always ask before you buy. If that name isn’t mentioned, I suggest you’ll be having a problem soon enough. One of the reasons I came into the Lotus world was because of the problems caused by inferior design/materials being used by some manufacturers. Silencer Options:
Depends on how much NOISE you want to make (or can get away with!), how much power you have and how much weight you want to save. This is my sixteenth year specializing in Lotus Elise/Exige/Evora exhausts and I’ve pretty much encountered all the challenges. I can be specific about what bore/size of silencer to use on each install and owners seem to be happy with the 2bular product I’ve recommended. I have tried to put up as much information/advice as I can because the e-mail workload is massive and extremely time-consuming. I enjoy speaking to almost all of my customers world-wide and it’s a delight to listen to their enthusiasm for their car(s) and for 2bular. I appreciate the support of the Lotus Elise/Exige/Evora community and look forward to an exciting 2021! Jim Valentine

New hospital - new arterial line and cannula!
23/03/2025
Tidy!
23/03/2025
Bit of a tidy up this morning! Moving from Cardiac to Vascular. Need to present best side to the new department!
23/03/2025
The right arm cannula into an artery - to sample blood any time with minimum hassle. This left arm cannula is in a vein. Drugs administered through that one any time. On the move today to HD unit (vascular not cardiac).

Now then! What do think is going on here?

Always interesting to compare the early 2bular 2zz-ge 4-1 manifold design for the supercharged install with the later version with its stepped primaries and smaller 4-1 collector. More power AND more torque!

Gotta laugh at these influencers eh? "ooo - give me a discount - I've got 1000's of followers" 🤣 that didn't work so let's get him to bite. Eff me I was so glad to give him a refund and let him go ride somebody else 1😜

The 2bular supercharged 2zz-ge 4-1 manifold options! Only 2bular (c'est moi!) offer a 45mm 4-1 for the MP45 supercharger, a 48mm 4-1 for the popular MP62 supercharger and as shown yesterday, the big 51mm 4-1 for the TVS1320 supercharger. The dimension applies to the 4-1 merge collector pipework diameter. Can you spot changes in the diameters of the stepped primaries as well?
29/12/2024
A comparatively rare beast! The 2bular 2zz-ge 4-1 (51mm version) for a TVS1320 supercharger. With the 70mm dia pipework exiting on the merged 4-1 collector, this manifold plus the big HJS HD catalyser from my V6 exhausts can help achieve outputs over 360bhp.
25/12/2024
Demand is growing for this 2bular 57mm S1 K-series exhaust! 7"dia silencer shown but if you want more noise the smaller 6"dia is popular now. Always ask what bore the pipework is! 51mm - too small - lose power. 63.5mm - too big - lose power AND torque but plenty drooooone!
11/12/2024
The big brother to the K20 4-1 manifolds. This one is 19.mm taller to fit the K24 long-stroke motor.

My Honda K-20 stepped 4-1 manifold + de-cat pipe shipping to Japan tomorrow.
09/12/2024
More Emira 2bular De-Cats shipping to Switzerland. 70mm bore is the ONLY bore for the 2GR-FE supercharged V6 motor. Swaged up to 80mm at the entry fl**ge (to take the 76mm stub out of the 3-bolt downpipe fl**ge - see below) and swaged up to 76mm at the muffler slip-on end. An odd-looking pipe for sure.
If you are a lazy/useless/ignorant manufacturer you might use an 80mm bore all the way on your de-cat pipe - then reduce it at the 76mm muffler slip-on end. Easier/cheaper to manufacture but if you are looking for a performance improvement with a de-cat pipe you do not use a bigger bore than the rest of the exhaust system! Gas-speed is everything.
Better image of the Emira V6 3-1 45-48mm stepped manifolds with 57mm exit from the merged collectors. Matched to the 2bular 57mm downpipes for best power and torque.
Why the step? Better torque.
Why 57mm downpipes (and not the factory 60mm)? I understand retaining the factory downpipes to keep the cost of your Kit down - but 60mm is too big - loses boost (and therefore Power!).

Euro 6 spec HJS HD catalyser for the emissions control.

NOISE!

Most owners are happy with that. I use different bores and different silencers for each install – specifically designed for each motor – it’s the only way to achieve best sound, best performance and save the most weight. Only 2bular go to this much trouble.
I see some firms offering the same exhaust for the 120bhp 1zz-fe Elise S, the 180bhp 2zz-ge Elise R and the 240bhp Exige S. They’d rather stock just the one system – cheaper for them – very sad/very desperate.
Track usage:
Different ball-game now. I can make a wonderful sounding exhaust but you won’t be allowed on a UK track with it! .There are some very tight noise limits being introduced and these are being rigidly enforced. It’s difficult to be specific but I don’t usually have any problems with N/A or Turbo cars, provided the Cat is retained or a Silenced De-Cat Pipe (SDCP) is fitted. The Supercharged cars; these are the problem installs. More power = More NOISE. I usually supply the std 2bular 8”dia silencers for the 4-cylinder cars to keep these quiet and again, provided the factory Cat is retained, the exhaust note is usually below most db limits. Supercharged V6 installs need up to 4 silencers for UK use. Be aware that induction and supercharger noise will also generate significant NOISE. Removing the factory airbox and fitting a TRD air filter (other makes available!) is not advisable if you want to meet drive-by noise limits. Fitting a De-Cat pipe on a Supercharged motor and hoping to meet a noise limit is just stupid.
Silencer Packing:
N/A and Turbo cars are positively benign with their stresses on the packing material I use - Acoustafil ZT-1 material – hi-tech and very expensive. Always ask before you buy. If that name isn’t mentioned, I suggest you’ll be having a problem soon enough. One of the reasons I came into the Elise/Exige world was because of the problems caused by inferior design/materials being used by some manufacturers. I knew I could make a difference.
