Hi everyone, It's with a very heavy heart that I have to say The Boat Co North is no more. I can put this post out as I've now spoken to all our customers (but 2, get in touch please) and hopefully managed to secure them alternative holidays with the wonderful Shire cruisers. Shire have gone above and beyond to help our customers, I always knew they were good eggs but they have really made an effort to make this as least disruptive as possible and to maintain traffic on our Yorkshire waterways. They are now my go to recommendation for holiday hire.

On a side note, now the owners are closing up shop, if you have an interest in what I'm going to do (John the boatman or pirate, however you recognise me) on the waterways and you would like to stay up to date with canal pub recommendations or history... Coming May 2025…. Booking available now

We are now offering bespoke skippered day trips on the wonderful Apollo.

 Available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Trips can start at our base in Leeds or somewhere in the local vicinity.

Spend a day travelling the canals and rivers on the historic narrow boat Apollo. Built in 1929 Apollo is a fine example of how a working narrow boat should be. Spend the day being the cargo in the open hold of this spectacular vessel which is listed on The National Historic Ships Register. You can engage with navigation and history as much or as little as you like with the guidance of our local expert skippers. Muck in on the locks, take the helm, bow haul or just sit back, relax and wait for a pub stop. The choice is yours.

Up to 12 passengers allowed.

Bring your own food, drink and have a day out you will remember for the rest of your life.

A fully bespoke experience on Apollo starts at £400 for 4hrs. £600 for 8hrs and £100ph more than that. Price is per trip e.g. 8 hour trip with 12 passengers is £50 per person.

"Hired New Dawn for a fortnight, headed north along the Leeds and Liverpool. Beautiful trip, loads of bridges, and locks, so a slower pace. Slept well, that's for sure. John, who fronts the team, was kind and always at the end of a phone when we needed him (nothing serious, just stuff we'd forgotten, as most covered in a training session prior to being released on our own), also he'd send us recommendations for stops and "watering holes" along our way.
The boat was lovely and warm, homely and clean. I would recommend this company, if you don't want to take my word for it, ring them up, you can hear he loves the canals and waterways."

Ladies & Gents, Ambush is listed on the Historic Boats Register and is operated on a not for profit basis. Sadly her upkeep is becoming more costly. The Charity is seeking funding, to ensure Ambush can continue to serve the Boating community, as well as become an educational assest, to keep the heritage of transport by Canal alive and engage a diverse community because .
Any donation to the Charity would enable the future of Ambush to continue and uphold the heritage of the working boats of the L&L Canal and pass on knowlege to further generations.

Been a little while since I've made a pub recommendation post so here you go... The Nelson Inn at Selby, this pub can stop you venturing into the lovely main town, due to being, as far as I can see, pure perfection and closest to the canal 😜. Nice beer, warm welcome, even though it was quite on my visit there was great 'chat'. There's a pool table and a beer garden which was clearly constructed by someone with a talented green finger. Perfect for a 4 night stay destination or on route for a run up the tidal Ouse towards York and Ripon.
