happy national travel agent's day!!who are we?

I was recently asked why I do what I do....and the easy answer is I like holidays. I like searching for holidays...

But the truth is a bit more deeper than that.

I was scammed. I was scammed by a "travel agent". I had seen them on Facebook for a while and followed them. They seemed cheaper than other places and friendly too! This wasn't a flash in a pan company....I followed them for a year before booking with them. I did my due dilligence and looked them up on companies house and they had an Abta certificate. They had a couple of posts where people had turned up and booking wasn't found but the way they seemingly handled it (straight on the phone and sorted out within minutes) fed straight into my mantra of "mistakes happen its how they are dealt with that matters".

So there I was paid in full for 5 nights at Disneyland Paris with my husband 2 children and my mum to celebrate her birthday...extras like dining plan, Character dining and the then famous wild west dinner and show tickets coming to £1300

Then 3 weeks before the unthinkable happened...they were exposed as being frauds. Hundreds of people took to social media, Tabloid newspapers and a few like me were contacted by rogue traders and watchdog. We lost it all and couldnt afford to rebook at the now much higher cost. I was one of the lucky ones where my parents could afford to rebook (without meal plan and all the extras we had been looking forward to - a very different holiday now) and we were able to still go.

Support groups popped up on facebook and whatsapp and we collated all our experiences and helped each other try to get the money back - we were lucky and got ours back via our bank but it took months. I joined and met a lady who had lost her holiday like we did. We remained facebook friends liking each others posts every now and again.

3 years later by coincidence (or fate) we ended up staying not far from each other at Disneyworld. The PRIME era was in full swing and we shared with each other where we had found today's flavour. We met face to face for the first time in a 5 minute encounter at Epcot where she handed over the rare Prime bottle she had found for my eldest and I handed over a ridiculous amount of dollars for a drink that tasted like squash :)

Once home we were chatting on whatsapp and I mentioned that I wanted to move into travel again after taking a long break. She told me she was self employed and worked through a physical shop in Oxfordshire. Jokingly I asked if they might consider taking me on and she gave me the owners email address. I wrote a long email explaining why I wanted an opportunity within travel and pressed send.

David emailed me back within hours and offered me a position on the spot and the rest is history

in recent history sarah and i opened the travel hive together with the vision of creating a team of like minded people who want to help people create core memories through travel so we have added sareena leanne and jamie to the travel hive

I love waking up to messages asking me to look at something for someone and there isnt a single day I think "not today"!
