Cruising is becoming more and more popular, but lots of people still hear ‘cruise’ and picture a huge ship, thousands of people, buffets, and days spent at sea. But cruising can look completely different. I genuinely believe there’s a cruise out there for everyone!

It can be a small luxury ship with incredible dining. A river cruise taking you straight into the heart of a city. An expedition cruise through Alaska or Antarctica. Or yes, a huge resort-style ship packed with entertainment and activities - because sometimes the ship can be the destination!

📍 The Maldives

What we’d recommend if you’re visiting…

Visit a local residential island.

It’s very easy to spend your entire Maldives holiday surrounded by beautiful beaches, overwater villas and water activities (and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that!), but if you get the opportunity, seeing a little of life outside the resorts is well worth doing.

Visiting a residential island gives you a completely different perspective on the Maldives and an opportunity to learn more about local life, culture and the communities who actually call these islands home.

And if you travel by boat, of course you have a great chance of dolphin-spotting 😉

Some resorts offer visits as an excursion, or you could incorporate a local island into a wider Maldives itinerary.

What we’d recommend if you’re visiting…

Book a guided walking tour of the Medina.

The souks are one of the best parts of Marrakech, but the maze of streets and constant hustle and bustle could feel a little overwhelming.

Exploring with a local guide is a brilliant way to find your feet, discover places you’d probably walk straight past, and learn more about the city along the way.

We combined ours with a food tour and it was a real highlight of the trip, and one we always recommend when talking about Marrakech!

Our tip? Do the tour at the beginning of your trip. You’ll start to learn your way around, and pick up some great insider recommendations for souks, restaurants and cafés to come back to during the rest of your stay.
