A quick personal note — I’m stepping back from travel for now.

Over the last 18 months I’ve learnt a lot, but with my full time job getting busier and moving house a few months ago, I just don’t have the time to give travel what it deserves.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me, liked posts and enquired.

It might be something I look at again in the future, but for now my travel pages will be quiet.

Quick tip I always give people — get your travel insurance the day you book, not the week before you fly.

It covers you from day one. If you get ill, or something happens at home and you have to cancel, you're covered for the money you've already paid.

If you're doing more than one trip in a year, look at an annual policy. It usually works out cheaper than two singles.

And check your bank first — a lot of the packaged accounts include decent travel cover now. Just read what it actually covers.

I don't sell insurance myself — I'm not covered to — but I always flag it when we're planning, because it's the bit people forget until it's too late.

A bit about how I work, because a few people have asked.

I'm based in Hinckley, I do this alongside my day job, and I work like a personal concierge, not a website.

That means from the first chat about what you actually want, to planning the route, to sorting hotels, transfers, insurance, and being the person you call if something goes wrong while you're away.

Planning to landing, basically.

I'm not the cheapest click-and-go option, and I don't want to be. I'm the person who remembers you hate early flights and that you need a hotel with a lift.

A lot of people ask for "two weeks in Australia" and get sold Sydney-Melbourne and that's it.

Here's what I'd actually do for a first trip, no rushing:

Days 1-4 Perth — jet lag recovery, beaches
Days 5-7 fly to Uluru — 2 nights, it's worth it
Days 8-11 Sydney — with a day trip to Blue Mountains
Days 12-14 fly home via Singapore, 1 night stopover

One internal flight, not three. Time to breathe.

I got asked yesterday if I just do flights.

I don't.

This morning I've been looking at hotels in Singapore with a proper pool, so you can actually recover from the flight, not just crash near the airport.

Then checking if the transfer in Sydney can do a car seat.

Then making sure the insurance covers the cruise bit they're thinking about adding on.

The flight took ten minutes to find. The rest is the bit that matters.

That's what I do. From the first chat about where you want to go, to making sure you land back at Birmingham with no surprises.

I learned about flight connections the hard way.

I was going to Rio, via Sao Paulo. Flight out was two hours late, which left me less than an hour to make the connection. Even if it had landed on time it wouldn't have worked, but it didn't, and I had to change terminals. Missed it.

I'm stuck in Sao Paulo airport, I don't speak Portuguese, trying to sort a new flight, and I've got someone waiting for me in Rio with no way to contact them.

That's why when I'm looking at Australia for people now, I don't start with the cheapest price. I start with three things.

1. The connection time is actually human. Two hours minimum.
2. Baggage and whether you can stop over without paying extra.
3. Can you change it if something goes wrong.

Quick thank you — I've had a few people viewing the posts over the last couple of weeks, I do appreciate it.

It's going ok, very slow really. Still waiting on that first booking to give it the jolt it needs.

I was going to put together a price breakdown for the Great Ocean Road this week, but work's been hectic.

Quick question before I spend the time on it: would you actually find a price breakdown useful, or would you prefer a sample itinerary (where to stop, how long to spend, that sort of thing)?
