am praying that one outcome of the horrifying fires in Australia will be a willingness to recognise that thousands of years of knowledge and experience nurtured by the indigenous peoples will be applied to prevent a repetition.
It is this "Earth Wisdom" that we must draw upon to restore and regenerate the land despoiled by our blindness.

Six months after the Tathra bushfire, a pioneering cultural burning project reveals how traditional Indigenous fire methods can restore the landscape.

It's always encouraging to be invited back - thanks ATMEX, leaders of change in your own right! Title this year: Can Tourism Realise its Regenerative Potential? Central America is a cradle for Turismo Regenerativo so I am very much looking forward to meeting many like minds and hearts. At least 5 items on the agenda are devoted to regenerative topics!

I've just posted my first article on Regenerative Tourism dedicated to three of my personal mentors: Michelle Holliday. Daniel Christian Wahl and Giles Hutchins whom I consider my friends. Apologies to the hundreds of others who have inspired and educated me along this path but thank YOU. Any feedback, ideas, questions, rebuttals etc all always welcome.

Recognition that the economic engine of tourism, as currently practiced, is unsustainable, is slowly entering mainstream awareness. In times of such rapid and radical change on every front (environment, economy, politics, society and technology), tourism is proving far more vulnerable than many want

It's rare for documentaries to garner such support so quickly. It happens when the message taps into the yearning we all have to live healthy, caring, meaningful lives on a healthy planet. I've only watched the trailer but it uplifted my spirits. Kudos to Intrepid Travel for being a key sponsor from the travel sector. Trying to get access to arrange a screening. Do read the article..It will give you hope.

Damon Gameau’s 2040 has hit $1 million at the Australian box office, reaching $1,009,999 box office total this morning. The feature documentary had the fourth highest cinema opening weekend of all time for an Australian…

I had the chance to listen to Kate Raworth live yesterday at the Reporting 3.0 event in Rotterdam - astounding! But look at the focus of her work now - as illustrated in the attached slide - two questions very similar to those posed on the Travel 2 Tomorrow journey in Flanders. Even more exciting is her recent collaboration with Janine Benyus - the biologist founder of Biomimicy 3.8. So it's impossible to think about a thriving (flourishing) city or town without considering its relationship to the natural world around and supporting it. Three other amazing speakers Daniel Christian Wahl, Joe Brewer, and Nora Bateson also gave stellar presentations. So much food for though I may need a mental diet for a few days to digest and embody the wisdom!

Thrilled that we have the go ahead for the Summit in Bruges in September. I am responsible for inviting the international speakers and curating the content. We want to make sure we maximise ways of sharing information before, during and after the conference. It's going to be a busy summer. I'll post regularly on this subject.
What's really exciting is that Michelle Holliday, author of The Age of Thrivability and someone who really understands how living systems thinking applies to our work and lives is coming. I'll also be posting about opportunities for workshop sessions on specific aspects of destination flourishing, community engagement, shifting purpose from volume to value etc .

I'm very weary hearing the phrase "travel to change the world." The implication, of course, is that you're going to change the world for the better even though much travel does the opposite. The retail sector don't say buy this T-shirt to change the world or these fresh beans from Kenya to change the world so why should we in tourism?

Change will not happen until we change ourselves at home. That doesn't mean I am opposed to travel - our values and behaviour can be changed by it but that depends on our choices/responses. So on a lighter note - if you really want to change the world, watch this cute video from Sustainable Human. Download it onto your phone or tablet, share it with family and friends, and if you are going to travel take it with you! Start a conversation, discuss, question, find kindred spirits, and at home, work or on the rod, share the notion that it doesn't have to be this way!! The 6-10 minutes it takes to start a conversation that matters, if multiplied many times over, is how real change happens. The key to the door of our self made prisons is on the inside.

It's World Environment Day - fancy that, we need a day to remind ourselves we are alive, living on a living planet! Since the chances are you'll be watching some kind of screen tonight, then stream this stunning film, preferably with family tonight (it's available to rent on Vimeo), then go outside and watch the stars!
