The water was calm, the sun was out, and Chris had a wedding to celebrate. He brought his family and friends aboard Neverland for a day on the Suffolk marks ahead of his wedding in Cyprus, and the fishing held up its end of the bargain. Rough Towers produced smoothhound, spurdog, thornback ray, and dogfish throughout the main session, and a move to West Rocks for the final hour and a half kept everyone busy right to the end.

A points competition gave the day a little extra edge, and it finished level between Chris and Lucas. Biggest fish was recognised separately as a further nod to the angling, and Jude took that one. The laughter and good spirits that ran through the whole day said everything about the group.

Congratulations to Chris from everyone at Neverland, and very best wishes for Cyprus.

Not every day offshore looks inviting as Neverland leaves the harbour. Today there was a stiff north-easterly in the air, but Neverland held steady at anchor six miles off the Suffolk coast, and the crew settled into a productive session. Smoothhound came first, setting the tone nicely. Then the tide eased and the bass arrived. Gordon landed a good one, Paul followed with a bass of six and a half pounds, and the competition for biggest fish was very much alive. Al settled it decisively, landing a smoothhound of eleven and a half pounds to take the honours for the day. Dogfish kept things ticking along between the better fish, and a run of thornback ray rounded out a fine spread of species across the group. The catamaran's stability in a lumpy sea made a real difference to the day. Comfortable crew fish better, and today that showed. A great group of people, a varied catch, and a session that reminded everyone why getting out in less than perfect conditions is so often worth it.

Alan turned 70, and his friends and family wanted to mark it properly. Not just a trip out to sea, but a day built around him: a visit to Sealand, some fishing, and a passage under the Orwell Bridge to raise a glass to the man himself.

We timed our arrival at Sealand for high water, which meant witnessing the changing of the guard in full. It is quite a sight: a cradle lowered from the platform down to a boat bobbing beneath, with the whole operation feeling both precarious and oddly ceremonious. The principality's story was shared over Neverland's speakers as everyone took it in.

From there, the rods came out, and so did the competitive spirit. The group split into two teams, boys versus girls, and the women, guided by one of our coaches, never really looked back. Smoothhounds and thornback rays came over the sides of the boat in good numbers, and by the end the ladies had landed 18 fish to the men's 10. Strong currents, hard-fighting fish, and a lot of laughter.

The final leg took us up the River Orwell and under the bridge, where the group gathered to toast Alan with food, drinks, and a view worth remembering.

Summer has settled in nicely out on the water, and the fishing has followed suit. Bass have been the real highlight recently, plump, well-fed fish showing up both at anchor and on the drift, exactly the kind of fishing that reminds you why this time of year is so well worth the wait. The smoothhounds have been equally impressive. If you have never tangled with a smoothhound, they fight well above their weight, and our guests have been finding that out for themselves trip after trip. There is a real energy on board at the moment. New faces, returning regulars, people who came for the fishing and stayed for the conversation. That is what we love about this time of year on the Suffolk coast. The fishing is good, yes, but it is the whole experience that people carry home with them. Not every great day on the water is booked by a group.

Some of the best trips Neverland runs are the shared ones, where eight individuals turn up, find their feet, and leave as something closer to a crew. That was exactly how last week's offshore fishing trip played out. The marks were kind, the tide worked with us, and the fish showed up. Bass were the story of the day, and two anglers in particular will remember it for a long while. Martin and Neil both landed personal best bass, the kind of fish that resets what you think is possible from an afternoon off the Suffolk coast. The rest of the rods stayed busy too, with a good spread of species coming over the side throughout the session.

There is something satisfying about watching a group of strangers settle into the rhythm of a day's fishing together. By the time Neverland was back at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, the conversation had that easy, unhurried quality that only comes when people have shared something real.

These shared trips run four or five times a month, and there are always places available for individual anglers looking to get out on the water without needing to fill a whole charter.

When the conditions line up, we point Neverland offshore and the fishing can be something else entirely. Recent trips have combined bottom fishing at anchor for smoothhounds with drifting across different grounds for bass, and the bass fishing in particular has been producing the kind of sport that stays with you.

Anglers have been connecting with fish on lures, jigs, and feathers, sometimes two or three at a time, and the limit of three fish per person has been reached quickly. Only those over the size limit are kept, and the rest go back to fight another day. The smoothhounds have been putting up a proper account of themselves too, big, powerful fish that remind you why bottom fishing at anchor has its own quiet satisfaction.

Recent weeks have brought a real mix of anglers aboard, from first-timers finding their feet to seasoned hands after something more challenging, and the sea has delivered for all of them. Smoothhound have been the standout, giving those who've not tangled with one before a proper introduction to what a hard-fighting fish feels like. Bass have been coming too, thornback ray, conger eel, the kind of variety that keeps a day interesting from start to finish. What stands out most, though, is watching people grow in confidence across a trip. Someone who's never fished from a charter before, learning to read the tide, feel the weight of the lead, understand what's happening thirty feet below them, and then connecting with something strong and alive. A few more spaces have just opened up, and we wanted to make sure you knew about them. Following requests from returning anglers and people who are new to Neverland Charters, we have added three more dates to the calendar where individuals and small groups can book on together.

Whether you have never held a rod in your life or you have been fishing the Suffolk coast for years, you are very welcome aboard. Our team are experienced, accomplished boat anglers who genuinely enjoy sharing what they know. That might mean talking you through the basics from scratch, fine-tuning a technique that is almost working, or simply fishing alongside someone who knows these waters well and can read what the tide is doing.

The crew take the time to actually coach people, not just hand over a rod and wish you luck. That matters to us. Some of our most rewarding days on the water have been with anglers who arrived unsure of themselves and left having caught their first ever fish from the sea.

Earlier this week Neverland enjoyed another cracking day at sea, with anglers landing over 60 Spurdogs, 12 Smoothhounds, 2 Thornback Rays, 2 Bass, 1 Tope, a handful of Whiting, and very few dogfish.

The standout moment belonged to David Johnson, who rewrote the boat competition record book twice in the same day. First with an 18 lb Spurdog, before going one better later in the session with an impressive 18½ lb fish.

Finding these migrating Spurdogs takes a lot of planning, local knowledge, and time on the water, but days like this make the effort worthwhile. Plenty of action, plenty of fish, and some memorable catches for everyone on board.
