Our Story

The Patchwork Dog and Basket was established in 2004 as a patchwork shop and sewing school. Originally based in Cuckfield, West Sussex, the shop moved to Lewes, East Sussex in 2006 where we developed a sewing school offering a wide range of courses and workshops with highly talented designers & tutors such as Mandy Shaw, Carolyn Forster, Lara Sparks & Janet Clare.

The shop itself offered a huge range of fabrics for quilting from the latest ranges from Moda Fabrics, Dashwood Studios & old and new prints from Liberty of London, specialising in particular in historical reproduction ranges and those designed and manufactured in the UK. the rest of the shop was filled to bursting with buttons, ribbons and specialist sewing supplies providing everything you could possibly need to make a patchwork quilt.

After 12 years of business, new adventures beckoned and the shop closed it’s doors for the last time in December 2016. Although passing on a large amount of stock to similar businesses in the area, The Patchwork Dog and Basket held on to its name (and a serious stash of Liberty fabric) just in case it was needed at some point in the future!

So, 2 years of retirement later, our fingers our itching and as if by magic we've found ourselves in possession of a large amount of vintage Liberty fabric - far too much to keep for our own uses! We've combined this with our existing collection and some handmade gifts to stock our brand new Etsy shop - we hope you like it!
