Spring is arriving in Coverdale. The sun is shining, the snowdrops are out and I saw my first lambs today on my walk. We are looking forward to welcoming our guests back to West Close Farmhouse from 12th April. We are hoping our guests have all kept safe and well during the lockdown. We have spoken to some of you and hopefully will see you again soon when your holidays have been rescheduled and we are able to take guests again. Meanwhile we have been able to keep up with plenty of maintenance jobs in the cottages and garden to keep the properties in tiptop condition. When we get back to taking bookings we shall be only booking each cottage out on alternate weeks to keep it as safe as possible so there will be a 'fallow' week between bookings to allow for any surfaces to be clear of infection. We look forward to seeing some of you back in Melmerby soon.

….And the Tortoiseshell butterflies on our lawn are spectacular - probably about 100 of them feeding on the windfall plums and apples (of which there were also hundreds). They bask in the sun looking as if they are quite drunk on sugar.

I can thoroughly recommend a trip to Bolton Castle after visiting this weekend. Plenty to see and the views from the tower were breathtaking. The birds of prey display was also great - I especially enjoyed the eagle owl.
