“Fantastic Stay at Ikos Kissamos – Exceptional Service Made the Difference
We recently stayed at Ikos Kissamos in Crete as two couples, and overall had a fantastic experience, made even more special by the outstanding service.
On arrival at Chania Airport, we were met by an Ikos representative and transferred to the hotel in a very comfortable vehicle. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by our personal concierge, Irinni. It was a little busy at reception with several arrivals at the same time, and although we did initially have to ask for a drink, it was brought over immediately.
Irinni was excellent — she provided all the information we needed, ensured our reservations were in place, and gave us a thorough overview of the resort.
We were then taken to our Deluxe Junior Suite via buggy, where our luggage was already waiting for us. The room itself was massive, with a large balcony complete with a sofa and table — perfect for relaxing with a few drinks from the fully stocked minibar. During our stay, we were also treated to several bottles of Taittinger champagne, along with some lovely canapés such as chocolate-covered strawberries, macarons, and baklava, which was a really special touch.
The bathroom was equally spacious; however, having a full-length window directly in front of the bath was not the most practical design feature, and we found ourselves keeping the blind closed most of the time for privacy.
We had requested the unpacking service, so we got changed and went off to explore, eventually finding our way down to the beach whilst everything was being unpacked. When we returned later, everything had been perfectly organised, which was a fantastic touch and really set the tone for the stay.
At the beach, the experience truly began to impress us. A waiter came over and, without us needing to ask, arranged a full spread of food and drinks for all four of us. As the evening went on, he continued to surprise us with delicious cocktails. It was a brilliant start to the holiday.
That evening we dined at Fresco, which was a bit hit and miss — two of us had fantastic meals, while the other two were not quite as impressed. Afterwards, we headed to the lobby bar for drinks, where there was a live singer, creating a really lovely atmosphere.
The following day, we spent time around the Dunes Pool, which quickly became our favourite spot. The service here was second to none. Aim looked after us brilliantly, supported by her manager Wojciech, who is honestly one of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals we have ever seen in hospitality.
Lunch at La Plage was again a little inconsistent — some of the food arrived cold, although it was replaced promptly. In the afternoon, we attended the wine tasting, which we really enjoyed. Our only feedback would be to better match the accompanying platter with the wines, similar to what we experienced at Ikos Dassia, where the pairings were explained and enhanced the overall experience.
Dinner that evening at the Beach Club was unfortunately our most disappointing meal, with around 70% of the food arriving cold. This was definitely the low point of our stay.
However, the next day we met with Thekla, the Food & Beverage Manager, and from that moment on, everything changed. The difference was truly night and day, and we are extremely grateful for her attention and support.
From then onwards, every meal was excellent. We dined at all the restaurants, with Kriti being our favourite. We were looked after by Ricky, an outstanding waiter who guided us through the menu — the table was filled with incredible dishes based on his recommendations.
Thekla also arranged another very special evening for us at Kriti, including lobster, scallops, and fillet steak, alongside Greek dancers and plate smashing — an unforgettable experience.
For breakfast, we often visited Azul, where the service was exceptional. We were served a beautiful tiered stand with fruit, cheeses, and small cakes, alongside yogurt, pastries (which they were happy to warm on request), and freshly made crepes. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
We spent most of our time back at the Dunes Pool, enjoying excellent service from Gaia, Alex, and Honey, with Sow and Panagiotis providing fantastic towel service.
In the evenings, we often went to the bar near the Deluxe Sea Pool, where Andria provided great service for post-dinner drinks.
Overall
While there were some inconsistencies with food early in the stay, the recovery and level of service we experienced afterwards were exceptional. Each day improved, and by the end of our trip, everything — from the food to the drinks to the service — was truly five-star and incredible.
We would absolutely return and would highly recommend Ikos Kissamos to others.
