Hello!

We’ve wanted to share the Granary Cottage update for a while but wanted to wait for our returning guests to see it first! We’re really pleased that they love it and tell us it has enhanced the cottage. We hope you like the look of it too!

The kitchen has been enclosed so it is less of a fire risk and new glass fire doors have been installed. There’s a new dining table, extra work surface, new fridge and freezer and the stairs are carpeted too.

Additionally, we’ve had work done to repair the stone wall along the drive. It had been shedding stones for a while and now it’s safe and looking beautiful again. We love it but wish we didn’t have to water the newly laid turf quite so often! Thank you Justin from Just In Stone.

We’re loving the warm, sunny weather and hope you are too. We have space in the cottages and caravan field over the coming weeks if you fancy a last minute break.

Hope to see you soon.

Our plan for some time has been to clear the overgrown area in Bob’s field and yesterday we did it! Field View guests now have a better view of Bob’s field and the surrounding farmland. We love how natural the grounds are but sometimes it’s hard to keep on top of the brambles and the speed of plant growth at times that will not harm the resident wildlife - we were very careful to check for hedgehogs and bird nests so we used hand tools until we were sure it was clear.

We had a cracking bonfire too! We didn’t only burn the brambles and blackthorn, we also set fire to the orange wood from Granary’s staircase and also the old black railings from the external steps. It was a fab bonfire!

Bob loved being outside with us while Reka and Happy enjoyed more sofa time!

We hope you’re having a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Suzanne, David, Bob and Reka

Granary Cottage update!

Chris has been working hard to enclose the stairs so we are moving towards compliance when the new fire regulations for open plan properties are finally published (we still don’t know when that will be).

We were worried about how the enclosed stairs would look and what impact it would have on space and light but so far we’re really pleased. We’ve got to wait for the plaster to dry before we can paint, then we’ll get the stairs carpeted and new furniture sorted - the old dining table and sideboard won’t work in there now, and we’ve had a request for some shelves.

If you’ve stayed in Granary Cottage then please let us know if you have any suggestions for what we can change or add!

We’ll show you the finished result around the end of March.

Hope all is well with you.

Suzanne and David

Hello!

On Friday we took a trip to Looe to attend the first ever leaflet exchange organised by Welcome To Looe & Polperro. Welcome To Looe & Polperro

David and Bob enjoyed refreshments at The Portbyhan Hotel while Suzanne had a great time chatting to people and exploring things to do in the area! It was great to see so many local businesses there and to find out about things we could do and you might like to do on your holiday!

In no particular order and hopefully I haven’t missed too many, we’ll put their leaflets in the information folders:
Lucy Daniel guide Fowey Cornwall - Lucy offers walking tours in the local area, from moors to the coast - we’ll be booking a walk this summer.
The Guildhall Market - a packed shop for everyday needs and holiday purchases. We’ll be visiting the next time we’re in Looe.
Polmartin Riding Stables - just 20 minutes drive from Hendrifton farm, they offer safe, off road treks and lessons.
Looe Marine Conservation Group - you probably know we love a rock pool ramble and a beach clean, often organised by LMCG, they arrange talks and offer a wealth of information too.
Dive Looe - newly opening at Easter.
Looe Walking tours - walking tours of Looe.
looevalley - Looe Valley Vineyard for tours and tastings.
Damaris - Boat Trips around Looe Island and Looe river.
Bespoke art sessions with Olivia - based in Looe you could have a lesson in the studio or in the open air.
Storm Boat Trips with Phil the skipper - book a private trip around Looe Island to Polperro and fish for mackerel on the way.

We also had time to walk through the town to buy pasties from Sarah’s Pasty Shop as we often hear that they’re the best in Looe and they didn’t disappoint! David and our friends loved their steak pasties and Suzanne’s vegan chickpean and lentil one was delicious - we definitely go back for more and recommend you try them too.

It’s been a joy to have another sunny day today and to feel like summer’s on the way, we’re keeping busy and we’ll update you later in the week with the fire regs changes to Granary Cottage.

Hope all is well with you and we hope to see you soon.

Happy Sunday everyone!

We had a great half term week with family and we are really pleased to have some new experiences to recommend!

We went over to American Golf near Plymouth to try out the driving range. We booked 2 practice bays for an hour and hit over 300 golf balls between the 6 of us. Had the weather been a little warmer and less windy we’d have tried out the football golf too! It took us about 40 minutes to get there and it’s definitely somewhere we’ll go back to - it was a fun experience. It also gave David a bit more practice before he played his regular golf at Trethorne, near Launceston. If you’re coming to stay with us you’re welcome to bring your clubs with you and he’d be happy to join you for round or two!

Later in the week we went to Adrenalin Quarry where David and his great nephew and great niece had a go at karting. It was very wet but they had a great time while the rest of the party, including dogs, took part in refreshments at the cafe! Saturday saw them (but not David!) back at the quarry for a chance to experience the zip wire before heading home. Adrenalin Quarry is open all year and just 15 minutes drive from us.

Friday saw us in Totnes, about an hour over the border into Devon, we had a delicious lunch in town, wandered round the market and then enjoyed some pottery painting at China Blue. It was a great way to spend a rainy day and the dogs were welcomed too.

We’re looking forward to spring and summer and we’ll keep you posted on what we get up to.

Best wishes,

Suzanne and David

Hello!

It’s a warm and sunny day here today and our half term guests are heading home. Both April and Granary Cottage guests have reported having a great week, and even the wet and windy weather at the end of the week didn’t stop them getting out and about. Field View guests are fine too, they’re here for another week and hoping today’s sunshine will hang around for a while.

We’ve had reports of great food at The Halfway House, fish and chips from Catch Looe, great pasties from the shop in Minions, delicious Indian takeaway delivered to Hendrifton Farm, rockpool rambles, beach combing, golfing, karting, pottery painting … it’s definitely been a good half term and as Granary’s guests said, a surprisingly active one!

We started the week with a wood chipper on hire and we said a big thank you to April Cottage’s guests who started their weeks holiday by helping us chip and chop the pile of wood we’d gathered into the orchard. Suzanne’s mum and dad helped too and we’re really pleased that the muddy path by the pond is now a cushion of chippings! We’ve had some great time with family this week too.

Work to enclose the stairs in Granary cottage starts on Monday and we’re looking forward to sharing that progress with you.

Hope all is well with you.

Today is our 8th Hendriversary!

On this day in 2017 we moved to Hendrifton Farm to start our Cornish adventure and we still believe it was the best move we could have made.

We regularly welcome back returning guests - those who first stayed here with Gareth and Melanie and those who found us during the past 8 years. We’ve tried to ensure that the cottages are like a home from home (a holiday home without the hassle was suggested to us!), and for all guests we like to feel that they’ll be relaxed and settled from the moment they arrive. There is something quite magical about Hendrifton Farm and it’s definitely a place where you can let your worries drift away!

We’re looking forward to welcoming back many returning guests (thank you to those who have already booked for this year) and we have some new to us guests booked in too. We’ve still got plans for changes to make when we finally receive the long anticipated fire regs for open plan properties (Granary and April cottages) and we have lots of plans for work to do outside, we’re hoping for a beautiful and sunny summer too!

Hope all is well with you and we hope to see you soon.

Best wishes

Suzanne and David xx

Before Christmas, Justin from Just In Stone, did some work to improve the hedges in the caravan field and we’re delighted with the result so far. The existing tree line between pitches 2 and 3 has now been laid as a living hedge and it looks great, we’re excited to see how it grows and develops over the coming months.

Justin also started work on the hedge between pitches 3 and 4 and David has lots of work to do with the tractor, and I have lots of bramble pulling to do, so we can prepare for planting a new hedge.

One of our first new year jobs will be to hire a chipper so we can make use of the huge pile of chopped down branches (we’re astounded at how big the pile is!). Then we’ll be repairing Field View’s fence and planning internal works.

Feeling positive about 2025 and we hope to see you!

Suzanne, David, Bob and Reka xx

Christmas is almost here and we’ve loved getting into the Christmas spirit with friends and family.

Suzanne’s sister visited from France so we booked a Christmas Afternoon Tea (although for us at lunchtime) at Olive and Co Cafe at the lake, it was delicious and we each came away with a box of leftovers to have for tea! Olive and Co is just 5 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk from us and definitely worth a visit.

We visited Carnglaze Caverns to see the caverns lit up for Christmas. It has already become an annual tradition and it was great to see changes from last year. We enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate as we wandered around too! Carnglaze Caverns are open all year and they have events on too, it’s about 15 minutes drive.

Yesterday we went to Sterts Theatre for the Sterts Singers Candlelit Christmas. The show was great, we enjoyed singing along to some carols and The Twelve Days of Christmas was a delight again. It really is great to see the theatre back in use and it is definitely a bit warmer inside now the tent has been replaced with a more permanent structure. We did take cushions, blankets and hot water bottles to keep us warm though! Sterts is only 10 minutes drive away and their 2025 programme is a,ready available on their website.

This morning we did a bit of tidying outside before cottage guests arrived and we have some guests on the CL later in the week.

We hope all is well with you and you have a lovely Christmas.

Hello!

It’s very windy in Cornwall today so we’re staying in to decorate our Christmas tree!

We’ve taken Bob out around the meadow and it was almost impossible to stay standing in the gusts of wind. We’ll need to replace Field View’s fence and our greenhouses have taken a bit of a battering but so far that’s it. We’re so relieved we had the cottage roofs replaced this year! We’re hoping that the wind starts to lessen soon!

We hope that you are safe and warm wherever you are.

Best wishes

The snow day was fabulous!

Bob has had such a great day! He loves the snow and had time outside with us as we built our snowman and later cleared the polytunnel gutters. He also had at least 3 walks around Hendrifton. Reka on the other side has only gone outside when forced to!

The forecast rain didn’t arrive and this evening the snow is very crunchy underfoot so it’ll be interesting to see what we have tomorrow!

Hope all is well with you.

Thank you to everyone who has stayed with us this year, to those who have recommended us to their friends and family, to those who follow us and will one day get the opportunity to stay with us, to those returning guests who haven’t been able to visit us this year (we’ve missed you).

It’s hard to believe we’ve completed our 8th season here and we thank you for the love and support you have shown to us.

Our main season has finished but we’re still fully open in the cottages and we’ll open the caravan field on request too (contact us if you want to stay over the winter!). We have plenty of jobs to do, we’re still waiting on the updated Fire Regs and we’re waiting to hear about the new Self Catering Registration Scheme but we’re also determined to enjoy some time off too.

We hope you have a peaceful wintertime and we hope to see you in 2025.

Best wishes

Bob and Reka’s place

Welcome to Hendrifton Farm! Located just outside the village of Common Moor, on the edge of Bodmin Moor, in a farming community, and surrounded by beautiful countryside, we are centrally located for Cornwall’s main attractions. Hendrifton Farm’s three pretty and well appointed holiday cottages and Caravan and Motorhome Club CL offer a peaceful, relaxing space where the pace of life is slower and yet the South Coast is only 25 minutes’ drive away and the North Coast just 50 minutes.

We are happy for you to bring your well-behaved dogs on holiday with you - 3 little ones or 2 big ones is fine with us. We’ll provide you with blankets for the sofas (and beds!), towels to dry them off after a dip in the stream or a wet-walk, dog treats, food bowl and poo bags (please pick up after your dog). There is a fully fenced field for them to run off lead and a meadow where you need to have them under close control due to the cattle, horses and sheep nearby, not to mention the Alpacas, although from what we hear they will stand up for them selves!

Guests in the Caravan and Motorhome Club CL have use of the shower and toilets, all pitches have electric hook up and free wifi.

Cottage guests will receive a Cornish cream tea, with home made scones, on arrival and guests in the CL will receive one if they are staying with us for 10 nights or more, or when they are returning guests.
