Something very special is coming to our corner of Wales next summer. 🏡❤️

The Maldwyn Meirionnydd National Eisteddfod will be held at Glantwymyn, near Machynlleth, from 31 July to 7 August 2027.

The Eisteddfod is a wonderful celebration of Welsh language, music, poetry, performance, art and culture. You do not need to speak Welsh to enjoy it. Learners, English speakers and first time visitors are all warmly welcomed.

Fronlwyd is beautifully situated for enjoying the festival while still having somewhere peaceful and private to return to each evening.

Our Longhouse sleeps up to 15 guests and is currently available for the full week. It has seven bedrooms, plenty of space to gather and a private log fired hot tub waiting at the end of the day.

If you are thinking about visiting the Eisteddfod and would like to make a proper holiday of it, please get in touch.

Autumn doing what it does best at Ynys hir. 🍂

Woodland paths, pools, estuary views and plenty of places to pause and listen. This is a lovely slow day out when the leaves turn and the light softens.

Check RSPB Ynys hir’s current visitor information before travelling, then pack the binoculars and let the day unfold.

We love seeing people coming together and celebrating at the Longhouse, and Halloween is no exception! 🎃

Our lovely last guests left their carved pumpkins behind, so I thought I’d make the most of their handiwork outside the front door and grab a quick photo in the autumn sunshine. 🍂

Christmas next, and we can’t wait to get into the Longhouse and start decorating! 🎄

Dark skies are beautiful. Having someone show you what you’re looking at makes them unforgettable.

Dafydd Wyn Morgan of Serydda runs relaxed starbathing experiences and astrophotography sessions beneath some of Wales’s darkest skies, where he shares constellations, stories and a genuine enthusiasm for everything above us.

No previous knowledge required. Just warm layers and the willingness to look up.

One of the pleasures of staying in Mid Wales is how quickly the landscape changes.

Follow the road west and the hills open out into the Dyfi estuary, long sandy beaches and the cheerful seafront at Aberdyfi.

It’s an easy place to lose a few hours to sea air, a beach walk and something good to eat before heading back to the quiet of Fronlwyd.

This is Foel Fadian: open skies, big views and the wonderfully wild northern edge of the Cambrian Mountains.

It’s the sort of place that reminds you how much space there still is in Mid Wales. Choose a clear day, pack for changing weather and take your time.

Swipe for a little taste of the landscape near Dylife.

A little piece of news we’re rather proud of: Fronlwyd Escapes is now part of Serydda’s Cosmic Cymru Collective. 🌌

The Collective brings together special places to stay across Wales where dark skies and the natural nightscape are part of the experience.

It feels like a lovely fit for Fronlwyd. Our Bortle 3 skies mean that on a clear night you can step outside for constellations, shooting stars and possible views of the Milky Way, without getting back in the car.

Discover the Collective through and at serydda.co.uk/cosmiccollective.

A little behind the scenes at Fronlwyd 🏡

We have been reading some of the recent discussion online about holiday let cleaning fees and what guests should be expected to do before leaving. We wanted to add a little clarity about how the cleaning fee works here.

The Longhouse sleeps up to 15 people. After every stay, our lovely cleaning agency usually sends two or three cleaners who spend around three to four hours preparing the house for the next guests.

Our standard cleaning and laundry bill is currently £360 for each changeover. The cleaning charge guests see is £250, so we contribute at least £110 from the booking income.

If the house needs a deeper clean or the team needs longer, our bill increases. There is no profit for us in the cleaning fee.

The agency pays its cleaners properly and keeps its own management charge modest. Supporting reliable, fairly paid work in rural Wales is important to us.

Adam and I also go into the house before the cleaners arrive to deal with anything extra, and we look after the hot tub ourselves.

We pride ourselves on offering guests a slightly later checkout of 11am. If we can accommodate an even later departure, we are always happy to do so.

Making that work within a busy changeover relies on guests doing the basic, considerate things most of us would do in any self catering home. Washing up after meals, leaving the kitchen reasonably tidy and putting rubbish in the appropriate bins all make a real difference.

We do not expect guests to clean bathrooms, hoover the house or do the work of our cleaning team. Happily, 99.9% of our guests already do these simple things without a second thought, and we are enormously grateful to them.

Cleaning fees are sometimes presented as an additional source of profit for hosts. For us, the fee does not even cover the professional cleaning and laundry bill, before our own time is taken into account.

We love welcoming people to Fronlwyd. We want guests to enjoy a relaxed departure while ensuring the house is beautifully prepared for the next arrival and the people who help us are paid fairly.

Close the door on the world for a little while.

Beneath the Stars, or O Dan Y Sêr, is our private escape for two: a king size bed, private shower room, wood burner, private deck and wood fired hot tub, all tucked into its own wildflower orchard.

And when the sky is clear, the night is part of the stay.

Who would you bring here?

For the day when “shall we go for a gentle walk?” isn’t going to cut it…

The National White Water Centre offers rafting and paddling adventures on the natural rapids of the River Tryweryn near Bala. It’s fast, splashy and very usefully in Wales, an activity that rain cannot spoil.

Water releases and seasonal opening vary, so check the centre’s current information before setting off.
