Visit Bodnant Gardens ….a short drive from Pont y Garth

Fun fact for a Monday morning - did you know that pergolas were developed during the Renaissance period in Mediterranean countries, to provide shelter and shade. They fell out of fashion after the 1600s but made a comeback in Victorian times.

The pergola walkway at Bodnant Garden was created by Henry Pochin, who founded the grand garden in 1874 and designed his arch on a grand scale. There are other Laburnum arches in Britain, but the one here at Bodnant Garden is believed to be the oldest of its kind.

The is still looking amazing and there are a few rancones of golden flowers still to open, so if you’ve not visited this yet this year, there’s still time. If you’d like to visit between the hours of 9.30am and 3pm, we strongly advise pre-booking tickets. With half term this week too, we’re expecting to be busy.

We’re finding that many of the early evening bookings are free from 4.30pm to 6.30pm (last entry is 6.30pm but you can stay in the garden ‘til 8pm), so if you fancy a little post work visit to see the arch in all its golden glory, why not pop over one evening? It does look even more glorious in the evening light – shhh, don’t tell anyone I told you 😉

Visit Bodnant Gardens, about 2 miles from Pont y Garth 🌸

at Bodnant Garden – well, it’s coming along very nicely. A few more days of sunshine, bit of warmth, some rain (not too much!) and we’ll be right on track for 23 May to early June as the time it'll really start to glow

We do strongly recommend that you pre-book your tickets for 23 May onwards as we’re expecting it to be very busy. Tickets are released every Thursday, 2 weeks at a time. From the 23 May until 5 June we’ll also be temporarily open earlier and a bit later in the day to make sure everyone has the opportunity to visit the Laburnum Arch when it’s at its best. Tickets up until 29 May are now bookable via the link and call centre. Follow the link to book and for further information on times, parking and a bit of Laburnum Arch history too 🌿🌞

Visitors coming to stay and spend some time in and around Betws y coed will perhaps be expecting to experience our trade-mark stunning scenery; towering, majestic mountains cradling sparkling, clear lakes, all bordered by rich, vibrant forest trails and chattering, meandering rivers. A little less well-known are the numerous spectacular waterfalls which adorn the landscape, providing that breath-taking rush of wonder as you gaze at the frothing torrent cascading over rocky outcrops of ancient granite. In Betws y coed & District we have many waterfalls to appreciate, right on our doorstep. Walking distance from Betws village are the famous Swallow Falls (pictured) and Conwy Falls, with many others just a short drive away.
