IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT from Murray MacDonald - AOTW Director
We’d like to announce some changes to our upcoming regatta which takes place on the 10-11 July.
The original plan had been to do a passage from from Craobh to Crinan on Friday 10th with the main regatta on Saturday 11th at Crinan.
However we have had a number of feedback from boats who have expressed difficulties with delivering boats to Craobh the night before due to the tide times across Luing, Fladda, Dorus Mor and Cuan Sound. All tide gates are not suitable for passage to Craobh after work on the Thursday evening before the event starts. This has perhaps resulted in the fact that we still currently only have one boat entered.
As Principal OA and Race Officer of the event and also with this year being our 10th Anniversary, it’s my personal determination to make this event as big a success as it was last year. So taking into account the feedback and considering both Craobh and Crinan’s involvement which is vital in the events success, I have outlined a new plan for the event to ensure minimal time off for competitors and ensure a fair event.
The new plan will now feature a passage race from Oban to Craobh on Friday 10th July starting from Oban Sailing Club. However there is a fun twist to this race. The passage race will be in 2 legs with the race to Craobh on Friday and then a race to Crinan on Saturday 11th July. Prizes will be presented for results on each leg but the two races will be calculated overall on corrected time with a special prize for the winter. Festivities on Friday evening will take place in the newly opened Lord of the Isles. Upon completion of the race from Craobh to Crinan on Saturday 11th July, we will immediately go into sequence for a following 2-3 races from Loch Crinan with the usual start and finish line off the Crinan Hotel. Then it will be into the canal basin for the famous Crinan hospitality that we all enjoyed last year.
We really hope this new plan will not only ensure we keep our commitment to holding the event between Craobh and Crinan but will also encourage people to start entering. This event takes a lot of organising for us and it helps us if we have confirmed numbers for the event in advance, not only does this help us, it also helps Craobh and Crinan plan their berthing arrangements and also for Lord of the Isles and Crinan Hotel to plan their catering arrangements.
So click the link below and enter what will be a fantastic event! Some of the information on the link will be updated later today.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you on the start line 🙂
