LONDON’S LOCAL PUBS, PROSPECT OF WHITBY.
One of the oldest riverside pubs. It was originally built in 1520. Known as The Pelican and later as the Devil’s Tavern because of the smugglers and thieves who drank here.
The current name, The Prospect of Whitby was taken from a cargo boat called The Prospect, registered in Whitby. It was moored next to the pub and became a local landmark.
