The Barnes Fragrance Fair is just behind the corner and I’m looking forward for meeting you on 16 May!

This year Perfume Walks is offering two Scented itineraries around Barnes and blending places, personalities and fragrances into unforgettable (I’m doing my best ☺️) stories.

Every day till I’ll present one of the exhibitors hoping that it helps you to navigate in the ocean of scents waiting for you at Barnes.

I start with Elan Vital as the first thing that surprises you at Barnes is how green it is! Crossing the fields or smelling white acacia flowers, you can’t believe you are in London.

Elan Vital is grassy and a little bit earthy, leaning towards a classical masculine scent, a true “vital force”, just like its name suggests. It was the finalist in the awards for Best Independent Fragrance in 2023, and it’s not surprising at all!

Lilacs are already in bloom in London. Spotted this purple treasure near Parliament Hill yesterday.

Did you know lilacs in perfumery is a mixture of several floral notes as they don’t produce essential oil? Of course you do, my fellow perfume lovers ☺️

If you also know who synthesised the first lilacs perfumes, please add in to the comments 👇

What I managed to find was the information about a Grand Prix received by Henry Brocard in 1889 in Paris for his “Persian Lilacs” perfume. Would give half a kingdom to put my nose into it.

A stunning exhibition of Elsa Schiaparelli’s fashion and perfumes in ! We had amazing morning with Hélène .e.pr

The only regret was not being able to try the perfumes. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have diffusers opposite each display?

If you are into perfumes, take as many pictures as you can at the exhibition, as the catalogue mentions only few of them.

Hèlène and I wish all the best to the brand and we hope to see these legendary fragrances back in the stores.

London has long been a source of inspiration for perfumers. Its character has been interpreted in many olfactory forms, ranging from the freshness of roses to the richness of opulent ouds. While one could debate endlessly which interpretation is most accurate, it is far more rewarding to discover new fragrances and the stories behind them, especially when walking along the very streets that inspired their names.

I am delighted to celebrate National Fragrance Week with a special Perfume Walk, created in collaboration with Hugh Parsons Parfum and Agence De Parfumerie. This marks our third joint project, coinciding with the launch of the new Hugh Parsons eau de parfum, CARNABY STREET.
