SHUMBA @ BUSANGA PLAINS / KAFUE NP / ZAMBIA
Shumba, named after the prides of lion seen in the area, is found on a wooded island in the centre of the Busanga Plains; it’s an original and authentic traditional safari camp.

The vast mosaic of grassy seasonal floodplains extending to the horizon, and mist rising at sunrise, epitomise the wild Busanga Plains.
Its diversity can be discovered on game drives, as well as boating early in the season.

Home to hundreds of red lechwe, puku and other plains game and their predators, the remote floodplains seemingly go on forever.
Standing sentry over these endless plains with breath taking views are six stylish tents, raised on wooden platforms, on a verdant tree island.

Shumba’s six elegant tents offer a tranquil space from which to observe the wilderness – spacious living with a cushion-strewn veranda for outdoor contemplations.

SANDIBE @ OKAVANGO DELTA

A maze of meandering water channels, papyrus-fringed banks and floating islands teeming with wildlife: known as the river that never finds the sea, Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the jewel of the Kalahari.

In the heart of the Delta, on the edge of a waterway, you’ll find Sandibe.
Situated on a diverse, wildlife-rich, private concession, Sandibe has exclusive traversing rights over a vast 22,500 hectares of wildlife land bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

The inspired organic design of the lodge melts into the surrounding forest canopy of wild palms and fig trees.

An intriguing curl and sweep of shingled wood remembering a giant scaled pangolin at rest.
Stairs open onto the high ceilings and the guest area overlooking the Delta.

The wooden deck stretches beyond the roof, while the upstairs bar and lounge extend along an elevated walkway to a viewing platform.

A series of decks descend to the forest floor culminating in a log boma, with a small gym and private massage sala close by.

La seconda tappa del nostro viaggio che ci porta da Città del Capo al Cairo attraverserà ben quattro stati, uno più bello dell’altro e completamente differenti tra loro.

Si parte dallo , lo stato delle Cascate Vittoria, una destinazione selvaggia e remota ma che regala safari fotografici incredibili in una natura incredibilmente incontaminata.

Il con il suo incredibile Lago Malawi, affascina con la sua natura, la gente cordiale e uno snorkeling incredibile da far invidia a qualsiasi destinazione oceanica.

La è la terra delle grandi savane che ospitano una concentrazione di animali eccezionale, ma qui vivono ancora alcune tribù che vivono seguendo le loro antiche tradizioni; qui si trovano anche gli iconici vulcani di Kilimanjaro e Ngorongoro.

Infine il , il cui nome evoca safari e guerrieri Masai, dove ammireremo gli elefanti tra i più grandi del continente e la città di Nairobi con tutte le sue mille sfaccettature.

Il Karoo è una regione da arida a semi-arida, complessivamente occupa circa 395.000 km quadrati, cioè un terzo della superficie totale del Sudafrica.

La vegetazione del Karoo è caratterizzata da una notevole diversità di specie, quasi esclusivamente piante grasse e cespugli bassi; inoltre l’area è priva di acque superficiali, non a caso il nome "Karoo" deriva da una parola Khoisan che significa “terra di sete”.

Durante il nostro viaggio visiteremo due città nel deserto Karoo: Oudtshoorn e Nieu Bethesda.

si trova nel Little Karoo ed è un centro di commercio agricolo di latticini, erba medica, frutta, verdura e tabacco, ma è particolarmente nota per i suoi estesi allevamenti di struzzi e la sua industria delle piume di struzzo.

Visitare una fattoria di struzzi è interessante, si possono fare belle foto dei simpatici animali e comprare un uovo per una grandiosa frittata.

Il piccolo villaggio di si trova nel cuore del Karoo e un tempo era un piccolo villaggio polveroso di cui nessuno aveva sentito parlare; oggi è famosa grazie alla stranamente avvincente e di .

Kimberley è una tranquilla città del Sudafrica ed è considerata la capitale dei diamanti.

Kimberley è stata fondata nel 1871 quando i diamanti furono scoperti in una vicina fattoria chiamata Vooruitzicht, di proprietà dei fratelli .

La De Beers Consolidated Mines, a cui Cecil Rhodes affidò l’estrazione dei diamanti, assunse il controllo dei giacimenti di diamanti nel 1888 e la sua sede è ancora a .

Quello che era un piccolo villaggio divenne ben presto una città e numerosi minatori si riversarono qui in cerca di fortuna.

Dalla metà di luglio 1871 al 1914, 50.000 minatori scavarono la Kimberley Mine con picconi e pale, 22,5 tonnellate di roccia furono estratte e vennero estratti ben 2.722 chilogrammi di diamanti.

La miniera a cielo aperto ha una superficie di 17 ettari ed ha un diametro di 463 metri, quello che oggi è conosciuto come Big Hole è stato scavato fino a una profondità di 240 metri, ma poi parzialmente riempito di detriti riducendo la sua profondità a circa 215 metri ed in seguito è stato parzialmente sommerso dall’acqua per circa 40 metri, lasciando un cratere visibile di soli 175 metri.

La miniera di Kimberley, il , è una delle più grandi miniere di diamanti del mondo ed è famosa per l’estrazione di alcuni dei diamanti più grandi del mondo.
